Placements are going on in my college. Various companies are coming and offering all kinds of jobs to all kinds of students.

Now, I am not a feminist, or at least I don't brand myself as one. I just believe in equality of opportunity, equal political rights to everyone and other obvious stuff. I know that technically makes me a feminist, I like to call myself a sensible person.

When Adobe came to recruit for a software development related job profile, they said they only required women. They marketed this recruitment drive as empowering women, equalizing sex ratio in their workplace, more women in IT and other PR stuff. Also the salary was quite a big one.

Needless to say only women were eligible to apply for it. I am not saying that I'd have got the job had I had the chance to apply. Mainly because I am not that good at software development in particular. But, I would have liked an opportunity to compete for it. Also, there are many other classmates who are very good at software development, and would have liked a shot as well.

The way I see it is, irrespective of whatever the reason behind it was, the entirety of male students were denied this opportunity. I did not complain, cause the management sucks at our college. They would have straight up told me to take it up with the company's HR. And I would bet that if I had contacted the HR they would not only have retreated the job offer but would also have denied the students of our college from any future opportunities. (Sort of blacklisting.) I figured one girl being hired by Adobe is better than no one being hired by Adobe.

Now, I'm pretty sure that if for whatever reason, the entirety of the female students had been denied this opportunity, they would have lost their shit and have held protests, rallies and tweet about it. Articles with discrimination against women would have popped up on the internet criticizing the college management and Adobe.

Then one day, this sort of came up in our class Whatsapp group, and not a single girl said anything. They only said they were so proud that a girl had secured the job offer from Adobe.

See, this is why hate feminists. The double standards.
