My niece works for a marketing firm in Halifax Nova Scotia: She has been in the job for 5 years and was recently turned down for a promotion and an Indian gentleman got the job.

She was bemoaning the lost opportunity and was railing against 'just another white male gets the job" when I had to point out to her that a person from India would never be considered white.

We got to talking about what could have gone wrong. So I asked her, how many hours a week she works on average and she replied 40 and doesn't ever work after hours. What about the person who got the promotion, she said he probably works 50+ hours a week. "Well, that's one reason for him to win out over you".

Now, let's look at education, I know your degree is not in marketing but is in social work which probably has very little to do with marketing. What about the gentleman who got the job, his degree is in business management and while not directly related to marketing it sure has a lot more crossover than a social work degree.

She did not buy any of this and of course, it was all about discrimination because she is a woman.
