I'm not able to go to the comments you linked in my app, but it read the article. I cannot believe that the court is letting shit like that happen. It doesn't matter if she danced provocatively. It doesn't matter if she was wearing underwear. You simply do not have sex with anyone who is not consenting or unable to consent.

Some elements of western society do not learn to manage their emotions; so they pass into the age of adulthood without gaining any of the benefits of maturity. Emotions are all well and good, should be expressed, should be acknowledged and all of that however emotional reaction to events should stop when the law begins. Otherwise it isn't justice it is only vengeance.

One in five women have been sexually assaulted. I'm sure the percentage is higher for someone serving in the military given the documented epidemic of sexual assault in the military and an environment that generally rewards hyper-masculinity and violence.

But in a way I agree... why did you throw reason out the window?

Cause we talk about it like its more heinous and terrifying then murder, so when it actually happens we all expect it to be worse then murder, treat it like it is worse then murder, and suddenly it feels worse then murder (or feels like it deserves a bigger repercussion)

The more I think about it the more wonder how much of the dynamic of society of controlling access to sex, particularly by women(but also facilitated by communities and states) has to do with it. It seems ingrained into every culture to some degree.

there are way worse crimes than rape, I think the reaction is so strong and emotional because woman empathize more strongly with other women since she see's it as it could have been her. I will go out on a limb and also say I think it might have something to do with the fact that rape is taking control of a woman's sexuality by force. A woman's sexuality is one of her most prized things, it's something she wields great power over others with. If a man ignores that and ignores her choosing him or not that will be deeply distressing to her core. That's just speculation by me, it could be bollocks.
