So so true. My dad worked out in the oil field for almost 30 years since he was 15. And he loved it. But he broke his body for it. I swear I never saw someone work as hard or as passionately as him. But I remember being a 5 year old little girl and already knowing the harsh reality that my dad could leave for two months and possibly not come home. A reality no kid should have to know at that age. And I remember that even while I’d give him the cold shoulder when he’d come home (because he was gone so often I barely knew him so it was weird) I would be so grateful he was alive. And I was grateful when he left the field. I was grateful my little brothers didn’t have to face the realities my sister and I did. Because it was terrifying. And now he’s thinking about going back out…and I’m terrified. My dad is one of the strongest men I know, who would give everything for his family. And from a young age, I knew that other families looked down on my family. On my dad. Because even though he worked in a field risking his life for his family everyday, he was seen as trailer trash. A blue collar worker who was expendable. It disgusted me. He slept in his car in the middle of the winter in Sourh Dakota with nothing more than a jacket to keep him warm back in 2008 just so he could find a job to put food on the table. He went some days eating little to nothing so that he could bring home enough money. He worked out in -70F and 132F weather. He tore up his hands and came home with more burns than skin often times. He turns 50 in September but in his eyes he looks older. I look in his eyes and I see a man who is exhausted. But I also see a man that will keep going. Because his family is the most important thing to him. And as long as we’re okay, that’s enough to keep him going.

I appreciate my dad. So to hear the words of feminists degrade men in the way they do, it makes me sick. Because I know from seeing it myself, that most men would give their life for their families. My dad is a great man. My fiancé is a great man. My brothers will be great men one day, after they grow out of their asshat teen phase that they’ve started. They don’t deserve this treatment. They deserve so much better.

Men make up about 90-99 percent of workplace fatalities depending on the country. This is because men are more willing to work dirty and dangerous jobs. If the money is their. Women are much more averse to working dangerous jobs. Bank teller is the most dangerous job in terms of per capita workplace fatalities that is majority female.

This is part of the reason why the wage gap exists. Men on average make 20% more money then women. But are also 20x more likely to die on the job.

Many places in my state don’t have underground electricity lines. Whenever a cyclone hits and the power poles are damaged, or whenever there is a fault in the power lines, it is men who have to climb and check them. I have never seen any feminist group demanding equality here.

Yet another advantage that women have over men that the mainstream media refuses to acknowledge everyone wants to focus on the glass ceiling witch is cool but what about the glass flooring everyone only focuses on the glass ceiling and see the majority of the 1% are men but what about the other 99% of men its not like this benefits the average man in anyway I would argue that it hurts the average man because it takes the attention off of problems in society that benefits women at the expense of these men I would also argue that the majority of men don't have it well but there the mainstream go talking about how men have it so much easier because of insert cherry picked statistic that can easily be debunked by any level of rationally thinking human being which then creates an echochamber

Men don't have to do these jobs.. I understand that work is work and there often isn't choice. But poor or dead? I know what I'd choose.

Women don't take these jobs because they actively choose lower wages to avoid ill health/death. I don't understand the debate here?

y’all are missing that a reason a lot of women don’t take those jobs is social pressure and sexism. You’re absolutely right that it’s BS, women should share in the dangerous work.

But unfortunately it’s the fault of the patriarchy that women are pressured into specific jobs or roles. Women, until recently, were almost always viewed as weaker and in need of protecting by men. While that thought process is actively being contested, it’s so deeply engrained into our society (that we live in), that it can be difficult to separate it from normality.
