It's less about the cat and more about men who buck the expected tropes. Most men, when they get a pet, might be expected to get a dog. Few would expect a man to get a cat for himself. Men who buck one trend, I would think, are more likely to buck others. Hopefully those that are prone to being toxic, like holding in emotion and resisting seeking help when they need it.

Toxic Masculinity = Any form of masculinity that doesn't bow down to the media/academic feminist establishment So already I'm turned off.

But even so, a stopped clock is right twice a day, and I don't think that the premise of the article is entirely worthless. If your masculinity is defined by what sort of animal you keep in your house, you've got a bit of an identity problem.

That said, without having read the article (I know just by looking at the URL that I would regret it), I bet that it made the mistake of mixing up cause and effect.

I'm a cat man and quite the cat whisperer. This is reassuring to know that my cat has completely stripped me of all toxic masculinity. Therefore, my staunch anti-feminist view that still remains with me must be based entirely on sound logic.

WTF? I am a hard-core reactionary (got that way after seeing a little too much of feminists talking about solidarity in the sense that I as a white man should sacrifice just a little more, and discuss my privileges just a little more. While women should never be questioned nor should we ever discuss the gendered expectations women have on men. And off course, that they have the newest iPhone, iPad, iMac, macbook pro and can afford expensive coffee daily while I live in a shared appartenment, with a second hand smartphone and a computer that I salvaged from the trash shouldn't be interpreted as them being advantaged in comparison to me. I am a man after all.) I don't believe homosexuality is a sin, and I own a maine coon. Also note that they just had to use stereotypicaly male model Chris Hemsworth as an example. An average guy wont' suffice, it has to be a male model. It is just as when women say they want a nice guy. What they mean is they want a hot masculine man who is also nice to them.

Toxic masculinity is best described as "socially-constructed attitudes that describe the masculine gender role as violent, unemotional, sexually aggressive, and so forth." This sounds pretty reasonable to me, pretty far from "feminazi propoganda!"

is it really so hard to believe that we're raised to associate masculinity with being more violent/unemotional/aggressive and that those are bad qualities ?

It's very difficult to have discussions when the other side refuses to understand opposing views.

A friend once told me that dominant people tend to prefer dogs to cats, I have no idea if that's true or not, but it sort of made intuitive sense as a theory, cats do not accept dominance like dogs do
