No, of course quantity doesn't equal quality. But having a lot of bad and having to work to find the good is probably a better situation than having nothing at all, which is supposedly what many men experience when they use dating apps. The men who experience this need to try to find another option besides dating apps.

Basic economic theory demonstrates that when firms have to compete for customers, it leads to lower prices, higher quality goods and services, greater variety, and more innovation.

That and if you have 3 choices or 300 the chances of having no quality in the 300 are infinitesimally small. No quality in three, the chances are huge.

My experience is that a whole lot of guys swipe on just about every woman in their age range and then filter after the match, so matches themselves don’t mean a whole hell of a lot.

I never got “swamped” with matches as I’d only swipe until I had a couple of matches and then focus on those. Most of the matches I did have who actually responded or seemed interested were good quality, but there were definitely quite a few who were pretty obvious about only wanting a ONS and didn’t present the possibility in a very appealing way. Not a huge deal though.

But I also quit the apps for a lot of reasons so maybe that’s just my cynicism. I didn’t find it a good way to meet and develop attraction and connections with men at all.

Someone who's a quality partner isn't "swamping" any women with matches. If they're an actual good potential partner they're not going to an app to try to find anyone. Those who are on apps messaging with dozens of women are usually just looking to hook up, sometimes not even that as many men just click the button to use matching as a kind of validation mechanism.

Quantity. But within that exlonentially larger quantity, there will inherently be more quality options. Most women are crappy dating options so men have lower quantity and quality.

More matches don't mean the overall quality will be better. And I don't even think most of the men on Tinder, for example, are bad or something, they just weren't what I was looking for. I was on there looking for something casual, but ''something casual'' didn't mean ''anyone will do''. I still wanted to have something to talk about with the person. A lot of guys had empty bios, a lot of them only had some poorly shot selfies as pictures, some of them were obviously just looking to smash cause they were in town that weekend and that just didn't interest me. Now, does this mean these men were of poor quality objectively? No, their profiles just didn't do it for me. The ones with no bio and shitty pics may have been perfectly decent and interesting people, but they may have also been shitty and dull, I can't really know based on what they're given me. The quality of the profile doesn't automatically correlate to the quality of the person, some people just need a bit of help to present themselves in a better way.

This argument only holds water if you assume the default woman on dating apps is somehow of greater quality. Outside maybe random dick pics once you match a woman who's invested enough to actually have a conversation 90% of the same provlems exist, you're just forced to deal with them since odds are you won't get another match within the next three minutes to replace them.

i think it depends on context and how its being looked at, quantity statistically would equal quality in this context cause let’s say for every 100 matches you get 1 good one, this means that for 1000 you get 10 good options, for 10,000 you get 100, etc - but while statistically quantity = quality, it does not necessarily compute in terms of stress, mental well being, emotional positioning, etc - ex. Is one good guy worth the (for example), 50 creeps, 30 players and 19 weirdos? probably not.

Then again that’s the folly of online dating for everyone - for women having to comb through all these likes and matches to find a good guy can be taxing, and for men the endless swiping just to have options is taxing as well.

Then again, more women realize that they don’t need dating apps/ are more willing to date at a slower pace that less are on it. Dating apps live and die by their users, and the sooner men especially realize this, the sooner the dating world will begin to self-regulate to a more socially compelling place.

If you do not have access to quantity you will always be operating under a certain quality for the most part.

Let’s use basic math. If only 10% fit her criteria or are good guys…if she gets 10 matches odds are 1 will be a good match.

Whereas if you get 1000 matches she will likely get to pick through 100 good ones…

Hard to get quality without quantity…kind of a crap shoot
