There is no “should”. People assort how they assort.

There are more adaptive social assorting and mating strategies than others (monogamy vs. polygamy), but I don’t know where anyone would get a morally obligatory “should” from.

i don't think there's any "should" about it. It works out that couples are similarly attractive a whole lot but there is no should. Sometimes populations don't contain equal numbers of men and women for example, obviously if there's 100 men and 10 women those women should choose the best men they can. Sometimes there's weird things with age distributions. Sometimes people have odd requirements that limit choices. There is no should other than that people should try to choose matches they feel will best allow them the potential for happiness and fulfillment.

why does everyone keep asking these dumb "should" questions? it's pointless to debate what "should be" because no one is ever going to agree on it, and even if they did it's not going to change anything. stop worrying about what "should be" and start thinking about what "is"

that said, you're never going to be able to accurately rank everyone's attractiveness anyway. there are too many variables that factor into attractiveness, and different people will prefer different things. also, male and female attractiveness and SMV aren't determined in the same way - a woman's SMV is based almost entirely on her looks, but male SMV is based on a more complex combination of factors.

1) No; I think that most men should be single, and most women who decide to have a baby but couldn't find a husband or fit in a harem - should have a kid through artificial insemination.

2) Since in the Utopian world that I described in 1, I would have been single and childless, I wouldn't really care much about what "coupleful" people do with their lives and how they decide to pair based on attractiveness. Maybe they should screen themselves and each other for genetic defects and parade it around like an advertisement; I really don't care.

I believe people should find someone they can commit to and settle down with, regardless of %. I also think people should stop assuming they are a 7 automatically, and be more flexible on who they will date.

People are attracted to a myriad of factors, only one of which is looks. I was attracted to my bf initially because I liked his writing and story-telling. I'd be pretty pissed if someone said we weren't allowed to be together because our body symmetry isn't mathematically similar, good gravy.

Average Joe belongs with Average Jane and IMO people should stop trying to date out of their league. The Internet and dating apps skew this due to wishful thinking, but what I see IRL is that for the most part people couple within their own SMV, give or take a point or two.

No one can guarantee that each person will get a partner. That is just fiction and not going to happen under any system of human mating.

All the weddings I have attended have been between couples with similar SMVs. Once in a while you will see a mismatch but for the most part I think IRL like goes with like.

For your last question, I married a guy with a similar SMV and RMV to me.

Yeah, "should" just doesn't factor into attraction. Would it be more "fair" if everyone dated their looks/status-match? Probably, but that's just not reality.

Not to mention that everyone has different tastes, so beyond a very rudimentary implementation, it'd be hard to put individuals on a universal "scale".

What you are suggesting is more or less how attraction for LTRs works anyway. Bottom 1/3 with the bottom 1/3, mid 1/3 with the mid 1/3, and top 1/3 with the top 1/3. Of course, there will be some people who get lucky and end up with someone who most people will think is a large mismatch in looks or overall attractiveness.

Attractiveness is subjective and doesn’t fall on a bell curve. What I find attractive might only be a tiny portion of guys (tall and lanky basically manorexic looking) and I’m really not turned on by ANYTHING else. Have I dated guys outside of this type? Yes. But was I viscerally attracted to them like I am with the tiny proportion of guys I find attractive? No not even close.
