My impression: social phenomena arise out of both supply and demand. If you did not see TRP in 1960 that can be either because nobody came up with this kind of answer to relationship problems, or people did not have really big relationship problems.

I am more and more convinced that the demand is there now at least for something. Not at all clear if TRP is the ideal supply for it, I would think rather not, too jaded, too dark, too angry and having a far, far too low opinion on women. But there is the demand now for something that is clear, at least it is clear now that the problem actually exists.

This is helpful because the debate can move one level higher. We can stop saying things like "RP is a bad solution to a non-problem" and we can say like "RP is a bad solution to a real actual problem, probably because it is the first attempt to solve it and later attempts will be better".
