• Pretend that you are a high earner and you fall in love with the man that becomes your current husband.

  • You have a kid, and he really wants to be a stay at home dad instead of working; you agree since you recently got a huge raise, and earn more than enough to support a family

  • Over the next decade, life is great. Your kid grows a bit more attached to your husband, but that's kind of expected as he spends more time with him.

  • Then, unfortunately, you catch your husband cheating. He's been cheating on you for years.

  • You decide you want a divorce.

My question, then:

What is the fair settlement between the two of you?

  • Given the kids are closer with your husband, and want to stay with him, should he get main custody?

  • If he has custody, should you pay child support?

  • Should you pay a settlement of half of all of your assets, including the house that you paid for entirely during your marriage?

  • Given that he was a stay at home dad, and couldn't develop his own skills, should you pay alimony?

  • Should you pay enough alimony so that he can maintain his current standard of living?

  • How long should you pay alimony for, and what % of your income should that be?
