I don't know what else Medium's done to OkCupid, but "Looking For" was a profile section, and "Long-term" and "Just Friends" (or "New Friends" maybe...) were options, as was "Casual Sex" and "Short-term". Technically, you could mark all of them, but the worst chicks always claimed to just want friends then came at you like the site was a menu, and you were a complementary item. They didn't take rejection well and tended to claim YOU failed to get laid when ONLY THEY tried. They tended to (doubly) hypocritically whine about guys that were actually looking for casual sex too.

I got called everything but a decent human one night because I didn't offer a "good-night kiss." I mean, she was decent looking and kinda nice but actually seemed shy and somewhat reserved.
I didn't want to be presumptuous by going in for a kiss. So I just said good night with a smile and walked away.

There are 2 different wage gaps. 1 the fixed one where man and woman are compared to their counterparts in the same jobs and the second one which compares it without jobs. While the second is always higher and is used pretty often by feminists. The fixed still exist even if u compare both genders on the same job. So even with the same choice of career there is still a noticeable wage gap. (In my country its arround 5 %)

They are using data directly from the bureau of labor statistics. Thats really the best source of data regarding this topic. (as well as their own crowdsourced surveys and studies which they talk about and you can download) The pay gap by industry is really interesting to me, where even after controlling for all factors, women make $0.92 on the dollar in fishing, farming, and foraging professions.

a waiter and waitress work in the same location (and therefore cost of living), with same levels of job experience (identical resumes), they are the same age and they have equal levels of education. They work the same type of job, their job descriptions and titles are identical and they have all of the same responsibilities. The waiter is paid $4/hr and the waitress is paid $3.12/hr. Thats the largest industry pay gap when controlling for all of those variables.
In the legal profession there is no pay gap once controlling for those factors, even though if you dont control for anything theres a 38% difference in pay. The uncontrolled statistic does not indicate discrimination it just indicates a difference in the data. The legal field is dominated by men, and therefore that could change the nature of the statistics. Society could be influencing women not to be lawyers. So on and so forth.
The confusion mostly stems from the difference in controlled vs uncontrolled statistical data. But even when controlling for as many factors as possible there is still a large pay gap in certain professions, even if there is only a 2 cent gap overall.

At the end of the day, most dating apps suck. The reality of dating apps are that it leads people to treat each other like commodities instead of fellow human beings, so don't get your hopes up with dating apps in general. I had a friend who vouched for okcupid, as he met his wife through that, but okcupid has pretty scummy tactics they use that I just couldn't get behind. For example, you have to pay to see who likes you. So even though they make it seem like it's free, it's not, you gotta pay to use their app for it to be any use. And to get you to pay, you'll somehow end up with about 11 likes within the first couple days, and once you pay you'll find out most of those likes are from people with profiles that look like bots because of the lack of any info in their profile, not to mention most of them being people from way outside your area or out of country. Then the moment you stop paying, you'll get another fucking amount of likes. Regardless, OkCupid does have a system where you answer questions, and these questions can range all across the board in terms of subject, from religious views, to political views, to social/personal preferences, etc etc. The more questions you answer, the more the app can show you a better match through people who answered the most similarly as you did. It'll show you a percentage of questions that match, and so you can go through and see what questions are answered the same or different, and you can get a better idea of what that person is like or how well you'll click with each other. But that all depends on how much questions you answer, and the other people answer. A lot of people will just answer bare minimum of questions, so you may still not get much of an idea of what that person will be like.
Coffee Meets Bagel is another one that some people recommend, and as an app I've tried out for the longest, it's far from perfect. Better than tinder, but it's not all that great still because of the nature of dating apps as a whole as I've stated before. Coffee Meets Bagel is more geared to be favorable for women, so I feel like it'll be more frustrating as a male to use CMB. The way CMB goes, you just fill out info like a profile, and that's it. No other special system to match you with people. You'll see a fuckton of cookie cutter profiles that all state the same thing from a lot of people, or see very bare bones profiles, leading you to just base your opinions off their photos. You connect the app with Facebook though, so the system will usually show you people who are friends of friends or something. No Facebook info is shared in the app, so you don't have to worry about your Facebook info being shown or anything like that, they purely just use it to cater friends of friends to you I believe. You'll be given a certain amount of people, or "bagels" as the app states, and you can like or pass on them, and after you go through the daily amount given, you're done for that day. These are free options given to you, you don't have to pay for liking. But there is a discover section, and this option is not free to like, you'll have to purchase in app currency to like the discover options.
One of my friends suggests Bumble, and I don't have much clue about what Bumble is like, but from what I've seen it doesn't look all that different or special compared to any other dating app.
There are a lot more dating apps, you just gotta do your own research from people's reviews of it.

When you get a match and you start talking, put a 5 message limit on yourself. After 5 messages that 6th one needs to be asking for her phone number. The 5 previous messages can be literally anything, if she's responding she's interested. You can't win her over in those 5 messages but you can lose her so keep it light.
After you get the phone number do the same thing. After 5 messages that 6th one needs to be you telling her a plan to meet up. Maybe use the 5 previous messages to try to find something she's interested in and use that in your plans.
Just keep changing states and you'll move a relationship along.
