I used to take a small dosage pill but had to go back to the doctor after three months. My breasts hurt when I moved and I was insufferably cranky. My mom thought was normal teenage bitching at the time but I was worried as while I usually slightly cranky and sour (context depending) this was so out of proportion it wasn't even funny.

The doctor suggested I change to this plastic ring, with the added benefit that I don't need to remember to take it daily. I'm much nicer (just sour around my classmates, but that's because they suck, I'm nice and sweet around family and friends with no effort). Nothing hurts and I'm much happier :)

Try taking some zinc. The copper IUD might have contributed to an imbalance in your copper/zinc ratio, and zinc is very important for cycle regularity and PMS. This, coupled with either eating high copper foods like potatoes, kale, nuts, and beans, or zinc depleting activities like drinking alcohol, can cause copper toxicity/zinc deficiency.

copper competes with zinc for intestinal absorption and serum protein binding sites. [...]

Our data suggest that zinc deficiency occurs in PMS patients during the luteal phase, and the availability of zinc in PMS patients during the luteal phase is further reduced by the elevated copper.

I took Yaz for 12 days. In those twelve days, I had ultra heavy bleeding nonstop and gained 5 lbs. I stopped taking it and said never the hell again.

I'm using copper iuds and I love it. I don't gain weight or bloat terribly, last 10 years, and other than a few mild cramps, I forget it's in there. The boyfriend is also a fan, oKAY? XD

I don't think the pill has affected my behavior. I feel less crazy and hormonal on it than off of it! My sex drive, weight, etc are also unaffected. I've been on Ortho Tri Cyclen, and now I take Ortho Cyclen.

I have had immense problems when it comes to birth control! I originally started taking it in middle school because of my long, heavy, irregular periods and even at 13ish I could tell how much my body felt off. I always felt bloated and like I had a stomach ache and was woozy. Thankfully I only needed it for a few months to regulate my hormones. Fast forwarding in life I have tried two different kinds of birth controls, the nuva ring, and the mini pill. It's all been hell. I have gotten fevers, uncomfortable bathroom experiences, nausea, and I'm convinced it's why I got an ovarian cyst. As convenient as birth control is I can't bring myself to hormonal birth control.

I got really depressed while I was on the pill, it was pretty bad... I also put on a reasonable amount of weight. I've got the implant now and I feel a lot better but now my period is like a month long which isn't amazing haha

I'm still on the hunt for something that works for me

It made me very depressed. I also bled a lot and put on weight, and very moody. Never again.

I started taking Ortho Tri-Cyclen in college to combat my acne - it worked for the acne, but it gave me wicked mood swings. I stopped it for a few years because I was not sexually active, and then started again - same mood swings. After that, I tried the patch (can't recall what the name is) and noticed that I was becoming extremely bloated. Stopped it and the bloating went away. Tried Yaz, I became an entirely different person - the mood swings were way worse and it made my periods way worse. Stopped that. Tried the patch one more time (honestly it was my favorite out of all of them because of the simplicity) but the bloating was so uncomfortable.

Now I do NFP - I don't think my body can handle hormonal birth control, and a non-hormonal IUD isn't a good option because we plan to have kids within the next couple years.

I had heard about this, and was one of my main reasons to avoid hormonal birth control. I put up with a copper IUD and even though it made my symptoms worse because I didn't want anything to affect my hormones. I'm pregnant now, and will probably practice NFP until we are done with kids and get either myself or the Mr. snipped to avoid birth control in the future as I do not want to go back to a copper IUD.

I get ovarian cysts from time to time and my gyno recommended I go on a pill to avoid these. it took me a few tries to find a good one without the nasty side effects, but have been on yaz for a few months now and it's perfect for me. bumpy start as expected, but now I feel far more emotionally stable and skipping periods/PMS is the best thing ever. I'll stick with this one for as long as I need protection.

I take one of the Loestrin variants, and it works really well with me. It's evened everything out really well. My mood swings were such that everyone in my family could tell when I was about to start because I was on such a hair trigger, and my periods were 9 days long with intense cramps. I would have to be sent home from school when I was younger they were so bad.

Now, my periods last exactly a week, and the cramps are just distracting. My emotions are much more consistent as well. My boyfriend and I had been dating for about 8 months before I got on it, so he's noticed as well. The only change he doesn't like is my smell. He says I still smell good, but that when I was ovulating, I smelled amazing. But we agree it's a pretty ok trade off.

I've been on alesse (periods were too long, had chronic yeast infections), ortho tri cyclen lo (same problems, plus more acne), and now doctor put me on ortho tri cyclen as of two weeks ago.

I am on week two and my face is breaking out like hell. Cystic acne everywhere. I want to cry, it hasn't been this bad since I was probably 14. The only advantage I have now is that I can treat the cysts fairly fast and reduce their size. But my skin is still a wreck and I don't feel like going anywhere without full coverage powder. :/ I just want to look nice for my bf, lol, but I always feel self conscious right now.

I also have been waking up depressed and feeling like shit for no reason. Then my mood will do a 180 and life is great.

I REALLY hope it stabilizes. I feel like giving up, but I think I'm in an adjustment period since I just switched over.

Birth control is such a double-edged sword. I'm just hoping this ends up working eventually...have considered copper IUD but even that has a lot of problems.

While I've never been on the pill, I've tried both kinds of IUDs. Copper (nonhormonal) IUD was a no-go for me. It made my period unbearably long (14 days) and gave me horrible cramps that painkillers couldn't help.

Now I'm on Mirena (the hormonal IUD), and it's been fantastic. No side effects at all.
