Love Languages

My love language is overwhelmingly touch. I'm a fairly touchy person in general with people I like (platonically), but in a relationship I absolutely thrive on it.

My boyfriend's love language is definitely quality time, thrown in with some acts of service, which makes it pretty easy to make him happy, because of course I enjoy spending time with him, and love making myself useful. My boyfriend does this thing where he'll give me hugs from behind when I'm cooking or doing the dishes, and that's pretty much the most satisfying thing I could ever ask for. However if I were to do the same thing while he was busy, his reaction would be nowhere near as favourable as mine!

One thing that barely even registers for me is gifts -- I don't really have much interest in receiving gifts, although I do love giving them. All the other love languages register with me on some level (albeit not as much as touch), but gifts ... not so much.

My love language is Acts of Service. My husband's is touch. The funny thing is, knowing that this is how he *shows* love, I've come to crave touch more. My husband is great about doing things around the house, without being asked. I'm a lot more touchy feely with him than I used to be. Aside from my dog and grandma, I don't particularly like to be touched by anyone else.

I've always had mixed results when I do the test, but the 2 I have "the most" are acts of service and gift giving. This is both ways because I love giving thoughtful gifts as much as receiving and same goes for acts of service. My bf is much more straightforward : his love language is physical touch.

At first he thought the concept was a bit silly, especially since my love languages are a bit more "work" than his, but I think he got it when he sees how much I appreciate cooking for him and also when he got me the first random gift (not for a special occasion) how happy it made me feel (a guy at his boxing training was selling homemade honey soaps I love soaps and honey he got me one). It's about the fact that he thought "I know she will love this" and got it. His love language is quite easy to cater to because I love touching him :D

Mine goes touch>quality time>words of affirmation>acts of service>gifts, with the first 3 all being pretty close in rank. I grew up with the idea gifts=love, no matter the rest of how someone treats you. Receiving gifts makes me uncomfortable most of the time, unless it is something truly thoughtful and needed.

Mine goes: quality time, words of affirmation, acts of service physical touch and gifts. And shhh don't tell my husband but I don't remember what his results from the quiz were. He's pretty much acts of service, physical touch and words of affirmation, not specifically in that order.

I'm very strongly quality time. I could get rid of the others and be ok as long as I have undivided attention and talking. When we first started dating I told him that I required a lot of attention. This may be a lasting effect of First Grandchild Syndrome. Gifts create a debt for me (though I got an unexpected Vday present last year that made me cry soo...?), service can too to a certain degree but less so. Words are nice when you tell me why you feel/think a certain way but I can also be a little skeptical of their truthiness (my grandfather used to tell me that I should be a model -- no Poppop I most certainly could not). Give me undivided attention and I feel full and connected.

Something I had to learn over the years is how to love him in the way he wanted. He likes to be told he's wonderful and for a long time I would think I wouldn't be with you if I didn't believe that, why do I need to say it but duh, I need to say it because he needs to hear it. It doesn't matter whether it's how I express love, it's how he feels it.

My main three are Time, Touch, and Words of affirmation. All I want really is for fianc-bae to be home so we can cuddle and just hang out. I don't like the words of affirmation unless it's sincere. He's not big on compliments or anything of the sort. He's definitely a quality of time person, so we always make sure to have our chores done before the other person gets home!

My love languages are primarily acts of service and quality time. I'd say my partner is about the same, we dont have the issue of not understanding when the other does something well meaning.

What is everyone’s opinion on gifts being a love language? To me it seems artificial and was simply included to address women who “would just feel so much more loved if he bought me flowers every once in a while.”

For me, you cannot buy love, and this flies directly in the face of that sentiment.
