From experience, be careful what you bring into the new place. Ruthlessly cull your stuff (if you have things you don't need or don't really want to keep) before it gets through the door. His stuff plus your stuff adds up to a lot of stuff pretty quickly so be organised.

Kitchen: Actually meal plan, and schedule your meals in things that require similar ingredients. Ex: BBQ chicken pizza and pulled chicken in the crock pot in the same week, then work on what you'll know you'll have left over from making meals (eg. half a bag of shredded cheese, breadcrumbs, etc) and work on meals that also require those things. Keep lunch making supplies together (I have that routine down to about 10 minutes a night).

Same boat. We just moved in a few months ago. Get rid of anything you don't need like /u/Limberine said. We did a matching table cloth, curtains, welcome mat, and area rug, hung up a few paintings, and got some small plants. Bought new Tupperware so it all matches and fits in our small space. When combining towels, plates, hangars we made a joint decision on which looked the best and kept the winners.

I like browsing goodwill. You can find some really unique stuff to decorate with. It's a bit eclectic so it's not for everyone but I cannot argue with 75 cent coasters.

Homegoods is a great place for decorating cheaply and replacing used goods like towels. They sell everything from kitchen items to bedding. Think Marshalls, but with things for your home. It's brand names at large discounts. Kohl's and department stores can be okay, but you have to know what to buy and when. I buy all my holiday decorations on clearance. I get great things at discounted prices. I regularly get holiday placemats, towels, and napkins/ napkin rings at Kohl's after the holiday for about $1 each.

If you're looking for wall art or things that you can make use places like pinterest for great ideas. A lot of the things that you can find there are very cheap and easy to make.

For making space storage tubs can be extremely wonderful. We bought metal shelves at a really good price from walmart assembled them and used them for storage for all of our kitchen appliances like my breadmaker, dutch oven, my crockpot hookups, toaster, stand mixer, etc. Shelving can be very cheap and easy if you look for it at the right places.

I have cast iron trivets that I wasn't sure what to do with so the man hung screws and they hang on the wall in the kitchen and double as decoration I just pull one down when I want to use it and then hang it back on the screw when I'm done.

The 3M wall hooks are incredibly useful and I highly recommend them for potholders they make clips that you can use and those are great for under the sink for hanging gloves.

Some of maximizing your space is going to be the ability to stack things in a way that things are organized, but also accessible.

The man even made me a special rack that rolls beside the refrigerator and holds things in the way that a pantry holds dry goods. http://www.instructables.com/id/Empty-Space-next-to-the-fridge-Make-a-Roll-Out-P/ Mine is wooden with a cherry stain, but it's been wonderful.

Also cut things down. It's easier to fill space than it is to make it. In the weeks up to moving take your clothes and flip the hangers so that they face a different direction once you've worn an item anything that you haven't worn can probably go to goodwill.

Look through household items like pots and pans and get rid of ones that are old and have issues with the nonstick coating, ones that are rusting, or ones that you just haven't used in so long that you're not sure why you own them. Be willing to get rid of dishes, cups, and silverware if you need to.

Also remember that if people do buy you gifts for Christmas that you can always ask for things you want and need for your home. I got my dutch oven this year from the man's parents. It was the one thing I wanted so it's what I asked for.

Another thing I've found that is great for some things are estate sales. I've found great BROWN pyrex, mixing bowls, and martini sets at them and they're super cheap.

That's such an exciting step!!! You could try DIY. If you are up for it, you could use older furniture or basic objects and modify them to look appealing and modern.

Kitchen: Hang peg-board on the walls and hang your pots, pans and utensils. There's lots of pictures online of this kind of setup and it really helps if you have limited cabinet space.

Other decorating: I like to get fake trees from Goodwill and then put christmas lights in them for soft mood lighting. You get the benefits of the lighting AND having some greenery in the house.

I can tell you how it was for me.. We had dated a few years and we always looked for an opportunity to have fun sex but parents/siblings were there ALL THE TIME. We basically spent the first month doing everything naked.

Coming home from work to a meal being cooked in the nude by your girl who says "It'll be ready after you shower. And there's ice cream for after" is fucking deadly..

Marshals and home goods can have some cute stuff, although it's not the best quality. Target too. I have had some friends get good stuff from Craigslist, but the couple times I have looked it was all ugly lol so maybe you have to be checking every day?? Beware of anything fabric covered though because of bedbugs (mattress, couches, etc)

There will probably be an adjustment period when you move in together- you will probably both discover annoying habits you weren't previously aware of, or something that didn't bother you when it was "his" apartment suddenly does when it's in "our" apartment! Try to remember he is going through the same thing, let the smaller things go (are socks on the floor really that big of a deal when you have a great guy?) and communicate clearly for the stuff that really bothers you. This is such an exciting step forward for your relationship, enjoy!
