Ladies, can we discuss social media behavior? Let’s talk about how to craft our online presence so it says the right things about us. There’s a number of threads in TRP about analyzing a girl’s Facebook and Instagram feed, so it seems only right that we discuss the do’s and don’ts here!

There’s a couple of parameters that we can discuss;

*What are the biggest mistakes women make in their social media presence? The most common? The tackiest?

*Age appropriateness. Like fashion, are their different rules for different ages? What might be ubiquitous for a 22 year old’s Instagram probably looks childish when done by a 30 year old.

*What social media should we use if at all? Is it better just to go without a Facebook?

*Selfies: yay or nay?

Some obvious commandments I can think of to get the ball rolling;

Thou shalt not post sexy selfies. This is Facebook, not the back pages of your city’s free weekly newspaper and you are a lady, not an escort. This is the biggest one. Men look at this as an obvious attention grab and demand for validation. It’s practically shouting from the mountain-tops that you’re riding the carousel.

Thou shalt not over-share. You have the flu? You have your period? You think so-and-so is a bitch? Keep it to yourself.

Thou shalt not make mean spirited posts. This includes photos you snap of bad fashion or hairstyles, trash talking, or "attitude" memes. Keep it positive.

Thou shalt not Vague-book. You are not a secret agent sending covert messages, you just look crazy.

Thou shalt not post any meme that features Marilyn Monroe with some block print about being able to “handle you at your worst” or the amount of “curves” a “real woman” has.

Thou should probably just avoid memes altogether, they’re terribly unoriginal and have already been reposted to death.

Thou shalt not talk about work on social media (unless you run your own business and are using social media as a marketing device).

Thou shalt not post, nor be tagged in party photos in which you are quite obviously drunk, doing a keg stand, or beer bonging (don’t do that shit anyways).

Thou shalt not have primarily non-related male friends or followers. Most of your non-family connections should be real-life friends, and they should be mostly female.

Thoughts?
