When I hear the word grooming ,i think of my grandma's brood of toy poodles growing up, and that always brings to mind the guy with all the dogs in the movie "Moonstruck". Those crazy Italians with their doggies.

A new tip I'm trying out: castor oil on lashes.

I read this makes stubby lashes long and thick, but it takes a whiiiile to take effect. If any men are reading this; castor oil and other oils regrow hair that you've lost. On amazon alone there are many praises, so it's definitely worth researching.

Every Sunday after running I scrub my face with a scrub glove and then put some honey on it, let it sit for ten minutes, then rinse off - and my bf always notices how supersoft and glowy my skin is.

You can create heatless curls by winding your hair around itself and secure it with a bobby pin! There's tons of methods on youtube for an array of hair types and lengths. I usually do this to tame my hair lol.

+Seconding coconut oil for everything really! Olive oil is my favourite for skin and hair, a little bit works great as part of a diy deep conditioner mask--you can also add melted organic honey and your regular conditioner to the mix. If your hair gets dry during the winter this is so heavenly.

I've been in an esthetics program for the last few months so I don't know if this qualifies as money or time saving but a couple things I've learned in correlation to my acne prone, oily skin:

Salycic acid over everything. Cleanse twice, once to remove surface oil, second to treat. This alone has helped my skin immensely. Exfoliate every three days, or less if you can. Exfoliating causes your skin to over-produce its natural oils which will only make your skin worse. Immediately apply a light moisturizer. Use a toner only after exfoliating.

Absolutely steer clear of coconut oils and similar products if your skin is at all naturally oily or prone to blackheads/breakouts. I learned this the hard way.

This may sound a bit basic but I've been at war with my skin my entire life so these things alone have been huge for me.

Get your hair band off your wrist.

Lint roll your clothes and shine your shoes/purses. Stop wearing stuff that looks worn out.

Aztec Clay Masque is the best!

Exfoliate gently with rice flour. It helps correct hyper pigmentation.

I've been using prescription Retin A about every other day on my skin since I was 25. I'm now 33 and I don't even have the hint of any wrinkles. I swear by it. People always think I'm mid 20s. My mom started using it when she started having random breakouts when she turned 60 and it has made her look about 10 years younger. I got the RX after some minor breakouts and it can make your face a bit raw while you first get used to it so you just have to find a rhythm - I started out doing it every third day. My dermatologist told me to stay on it for wrinkle prevention as it is the #1 thing besides sunscreen that he has seen work for preventing wrinkles. Retin A is a chemical exfoliator. My dermatologist also said NEVER to use mechanical exfoliators because people typically do more harm than good. He said it is much better to use chemical exfoliators.

He also said that most people don't apply ENOUGH sunscreen to get the coverage on the bottle. In order to get your 30 SPF facial sunscreen to actually give 30 SPF worth of coverage, you'd have to cake it on. He told me the best thing to do was get a 80+ SPF sunscreen because if I apply it like regular lotion it will give me at least 40 SPF worth of coverage. Seriously, if you are not wearing sunscreen every day, you are doing yourself a great disservice. Even if you live somewhere perpetually cloudy, your skin can still start looking old from sun damage.

NO TANNING BEDS EVER EVER EVER. Maybe they make you look healthier and skinnier and all glowy in your 20s but you should see some of the girls I went to high school with who have been tanning for 15 years at this point. At 32-33, their skin looks 45.

Girls in your 20s - take care of your skin now and it will reap massive benefits later.

In order of importance: 1. Reduce sun damage and exposure. 2. Consider Retin A or use another chemical exfoliator. 3. Get enough sleep. 4. Drink water. 5. Eat lots of plant foods.

If your skin is breaking out, give it a break from constant makeup. Yes, it sucks in the short term to feel uglier but think of it as monk mode for your skin. Get the acne under control then start adding one makeup product at a time to see if it causes breakouts! Consider non-comedogenic makeup as they are dermatologist approved to cause less breakouts.

Putting makeup on bad skin is like building a house on a faulty foundation, if you invest in your skin, you will always look better in the long run even with less makeup on than another girl!! You will exude health and youth which is very important to your overall looks!!

EDIT: To add in my skin routine and some make-up suggestions:

Morning - Splash water on my face to wake up complexion and get the sleep out of my eyes, no need to wash your face more than once a day because you will get dried out. Apply vitamin C serum: http://www.amazon.com/dp/B00UGBJTEQ Apply sunscreen I linked above.

Once a week, I apply a sheet mask to really hydrate my skin since the Retin A dries it out. Sheet masks are amazing.
