I love Valentine's Day. Always have.

But I've never been a fan of going out or gifts. I just like to cook a nice meal at home, pick a good bottle of wine, and see where the night takes us.

Easy peasy.

I've never liked Valentine's Day, single or attached. I'd rather have a date night when there aren't 4,000 other people doing the same, competing for who has the most romantic husband, ultimately setting him up for failure.

My husband and I have never done much for Valentine's Day, usually just getting takeout, watching a movie, and trading small gifts. In 2020, just before Covid-19 hit, my husband came home on February 13th to tell me the urologist had told him our best chance to get pregnant was IVF. It absolutely broke my heart.

Four years later, I'm pregnant with our fourth, due in April, so we now make Valentine's Day a big family event. It's the first time I've ever really looked forward to it. I've bought all my kids Pillow Pets. We're going to make Valentine's Day cookies and do crafts. My husband is getting homemade lasagna. If the weather is nice, we'll take the kids to the park. He's thrilled with the idea, because he thinks the holiday is just as stupid as I do.

I love Valentines day because I don't need much at all to get jazzed about celebrating love. My husband has fun but I realize it is mostly for me. I communicate clearly what I want and my expectations have always been met or exceeded.

I have to be honest, I love valentines day decor and all the goodies it's great. But the thought of it stresses me out and I never liked obligation days in relationships. I don't want any stressful expectations for both sides. So im okay without it!

No. Thankfully my husband and I both agree that Valentine’s Day is a fake holiday not worth celebrating.

My thoughts and prayers go out to the folks who have expectations that haven’t been clearly communicated to their SOs.

In my business, we gave out a single rose to every guest on that day. At first it was just the ladies. After a few years, we decided the men should also get one because it was more memorable for a man to receive such a gift, and he could always pass it on to a women in his life. The point of legendary service was to create story-worthy encounters. Find ways to become more meaningful in their lives, especially with milestone events such as a birth, graduation, promotion or marriage.

I think communicating expectations is super important. Last year was our first valentines and we went all out. This year I would rather save our money for something else.

(shrug) I can take or leave the holiday honestly. I mean if my man is showing me love and affection everyday, the holiday holds no real meaning outside of a reason to stock up on candy. Lol. My wedding/dating anniversaries are my Valentine's days.

I’m similar in that I love the decor and gifts that come out around this time of year. I work at a gift-oriented store, so I get exposed to all of it and get tempted, but so much of it is out of my price range, even with a discount. Also, my bf isn’t really a fan of Valentine’s Day/the expectations often levied by women during it (I agree that women can often have too high expectations around the day, it should be about the couple, not only half of the couple IMO). I floated the idea of going somewhere for Valentine’s Day dinner and the reaction was negative. HOWEVER, he does “Valentine’s Day type things” regularly. He surprises me with my favourite flowers when I’m not expecting it, and we go out to dinner when we can. We both don’t want to bother with loud places and crowds, so Valentine’s Day dinner wouldn’t be enjoyable, for both of us. I think we both embrace the idea of spreading those Valentine’s Day feelings through the entire year instead of one day.

I’ll probably make a nice steak dinner for us at home 🥰

I always love Valentine’s day but as a way to showcase my love, not specifically to receive it. So I’m never disappointed because my goal is to make everyone else feel loved!

You radiate the good energy that day and I find you get love in return. That being said, he always gets me flowers. Usually potted too because I love keeping them for my garden in the spring.

I always bake him something special, cookies, cake, pie, etc. Just find something cool on pinterest and make it valentinesy.

I love Valentine’s Day! It’s such a great time for my husband and I to leave the kiddos/pets/responsibilities of the house, and have some romantic 1-1 time together. 🥰

Expectations: - He typically expects some form of lingerie and/or “hot couples surprise”, and for me to have made arrangements for the kiddos/pets to be out of the house (aka grandmas/doggy daycare) - I typically expect a planned date night, and maybe flowers and/or some trinket/token of affection (he typically blows my expectations out of the water) - We mutually expect one another to “look the part” for a night on the town (he goes and gets his beard and hair all nicely done, takes a long shower, gets a fresh outfit etc… I typically get my nails done, make sure I’m totally waxed/smooth, get a blowout, etc)

No one “has to” do Valentine’s Day… but for us as busy married people, it’s great to have a set day each year to really plan ahead, and totally focus on connection as a couple instead of our other “duties”!
