Now I know this is not usually the type of post that you would find in this subreddit, but this is something I thought I would share with you guys, because it has really done great things for me.

If there is anything to gain from learning from this subreddit, it's that one should not put their emotional investment into any person other than themselves, especially a woman, as they are fickle creatures that can throw it away without thought. This can be, specifically for beginners, a difficult task, because sharing the emotional load they bear with others is something they have been taught for years to emphasize.

Dogs, however, are not hypergamous. Their loyalty is a fixed entity, and I personally have found they give to their owners just as much as their owners give to them. I own 3 dogs, and while I've removed my emotional attachment from women, I've put it into them and not looked back.

Some may argue that putting any emotion into any other creature may be a mistake, but I don't think this. Yes, there is the inevitable end of any relationship with a dog, when its life finally comes to a close, and that can certainly take an emotional toll on those who were close to it. But the difference between this and a woman is that one can know with certainty that the relationship will come to a close, and even most times when it will do so. Plus, in my own humble opinion, a little emotional hardship every 13 years is a healthy way to grow as an individual, as controversial an idea that may be for this community.

This is by no means essential to becoming the best man you can be, but it is something that I believe has brought me closer to that threshold, and it may do the same for some of you. There's a reason that the phrase is "dogs are a man's best friend," and it's not "women are man's best friend."
