From a marketing standpoint; this is just fucking bizarre that Gilette would go so far out of their way to market to such a small population and a population that clearly doesn’t fit their big-picture demographics.

It’s a bit shocking the executives would all go along with such a marketing strategy. It would be like a candy company trying to market to pre-diabetics because they are not fully diabetic yet.

Nobody should be surprised. There's parents on facebook posting pictures of their infants, not even a year old, saying the kid is transgender.

As for gilette, not sure why they're doubling down. The people who support them on social media aren't buying their products. About the only thing they do buy is soy lattes every morning. Either way, I don't touch any of those products, nor anything from P&G.

I have less of a problem with this than the previous Gillette advert that went out of its way to shame men as being toxic. If people want to be trans then that is their right. If a private company wants to advertise to these people then that is also their right in the free market place.

However, Gillette deliberately attacking normal men just for being so-called “toxic” was an outrage and they deserved all the backlash they got.

They are trying to provoke a response after their last rage inducing ad. I suspect this ad worked for them, they got the buzz they wanted and now they want to do it again.

They want your rage, they want internet uproar to create a sensational reaction.

The incidence of this disease is about 2:100,000. That means that if you put it in the NYT on a weekday, you will get 10 transgender people seeing your ad. Targeting transgender people through any general medium is pointless, they are a tiny minority of people in our population.

So if they are not targeting transgender people, what are they doing?

They are cynically using a group of disease sufferers to promote their product.

It’s like a sneaker company using amputees to sell sneakers or perhaps It’s like using self harmers to sell razor blades!

Don’t feed their machine with the anger they’re after just pity them for hiring an “edgy, dangerous and forward thinking” advertising and then go out and buy some decent shaving kit instead.
