Great idea in principle, but what's to stop a fattie lying when they fill in the 'size' field? They already try to 'lie' with their photos (see MySpace angles).

I suggest "report a fattie" button. For those who had the disappointing and unfortunate meeting with one.

[–][deleted] 19 points20 points21 points 12 years ago (3 children) | Copy Link

Hahaha... no seriously (in regards to the button).

Women everywhere are going to rationalize lying about themselves to meet a man -- but then again, how is that different anywhere else?

Someone posted this meme in /r/okcupid the other day. I was pleasantly surprised.

http://i.imgur.com/z43HXpE.jpg

Thank goodness someone had the balls to call out one of these fakers to her face.

[–]LabGeeked 3 points4 points5 points 12 years ago (1 child) | Copy Link

Both parties in that story are gay males.

[–]wh40k_Junkie 1 point2 points3 points 12 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

Ya, and the dude sounded mentally unstable, crying the entire time and what not. It was a real awkward penguin situation

[–]LifterofThings 11 points12 points13 points 12 years ago (6 children) | Copy Link

Yeah, I listed myself as "curvy" when I was on OKC. I don't have any rolls, and my curves go both inward and outward rather than all the outward direction, but I am definitely "squishier" than average.

I checked some of the other profiles and shit, some of those broads easily had 50 lbs on me.

I just don't get it-- it's not like there are no men into the rubenesque ladies. Why not market to those, rather than getting your hopes up over someone for whom your thickness is a dealbreaker?

If there's one thing I learned from my time on OKC, if you see someone listed as "curvy," make sure and double sure she's got a full shot of her body, because otherwise it's a 99% guarantee she's using that as code for "fat."

[–]LifterofThings 1 point2 points3 points 12 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

Yeah, that much I see.

But it's equivalent to, say, writing a book or making a game for men aged 24-29, and advertising it only on the O Network, and in Cosmo. Your market's out there, it's just that the way you've chosen to try to access it is... ridiculously ineffective.

... I mean, obviously the demographic of men with single-digit bodyfat measurements who are into rolls on their women is probably pretty small... but not nonexistant. But, wanna know how to ensure that you never meet one? Pretend to be a fit chick and market only to dudes who are into fit chicks.

[–]Pink_acetaminophen 1 point2 points3 points 12 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

I'm a curvy non rolled woman and I want a heavy hefty man. Even huge women look at me weird when I say I like heavier men. Am I wrong or what?

[–]FortunateBum -1 points0 points1 point 12 years ago (1 child) | Copy Link

I just don't get it

As much as you think men don't like fat women... women hate fat men even more. No woman wants a fatty.

[–]LifterofThings 1 point2 points3 points 12 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

I dunno, a fair number of my dude-buddies are fat, and are paired.

Mind you, none of their gfs are VS model hopefuls. I personally abide by the "smaller tits than mine, plz" threshold.

[–]replyaccount 7 points8 points9 points 12 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

On OKC:

"Average" means "A little extra"

"Curvy" and "Full Figured" means "Overweight"

"Athletic" means "Average"

"Fit" sometimes indeed does mean "Fit", but usually means "Skinny"

[–]B_Campbell 2 points3 points4 points 12 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

I like your style!

[–]slimydogs7 points8 points9 points 12 years ago* (2 children) | Copy Link

They already lie. Some call themselves "normal" which means normal sized women who pick correctly end up lumped in with Mrs. McBeached-Wale. It's very hard to trust the sizing...just don't go into the "curvy" field...it's not full of curves so much as it is full of blubber.

EDIT: After /u/salami_inferno 's reply, I should clarify that by "norma" I mean being between 19-25 on the BMI scale as opposed to competing for the 99th percentile of fat.

[–]salami_inferno 2 points3 points4 points 12 years ago (1 child) | Copy Link

Technically you could be an average weight american and still be overweight. Having so many fatasses really screws what the average is.

[–]slimydogs4 points 12 years ago [recovered] | Copy Link

That is very very true. By average I suppose I am referring to the older average. Being 5"5 and weighing 100-129 pounds sort of average. Not 5"5 and weighing 150 pounds or something like that.

[–]AlmostRP 1 point2 points3 points 12 years ago* (0 children) | Copy Link

An angel's perspective, as I (I learned it from others, obviously) like to call it. And not one I'll ever get to see, in real life most likely.

[–]invisiblephrend 1 point2 points3 points 12 years ago (3 children) | Copy Link

i've had that happen twice to me. chick had pics of her when she was smoking hot...in high school. knocks on my door 50+ lbs later. needless to say, the dates didn't go well. -_-

[–]WhitePhillip 0 points1 point2 points 12 years ago (2 children) | Copy Link

Dates? As in plural? If somebody felt that it was cool to lie to me before we even meet then we're done. I'd have told that girl off right there on the doorstep. If she took the time to lose the weight she wouldn't have to try to sneak in dates on unsuspecting men, they would approach her.

[–]invisiblephrend 3 points4 points5 points 12 years ago* (1 child) | Copy Link

plural as in two separate occasions. i felt bad that they obviously had self-esteem issues, but then they ended up being boring as well. and yeah, i could've told them off, but what's the point? petty revenge? it really wasn't that big of a deal to me, at least not enough to hurt their feelings. we just had a few drinks, didn't have much in common anyway, and went our separate ways. i had no legitimate reason to just bitch them out.

[–]WhitePhillip -1 points0 points1 point 12 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

My choice of words was a bit harsher than I intended. Basically if someone is lying to me then they're not worth my trust and I would let them know that. How much of the conversation you had with them do you think you could actually believe? The delivery method is up to you but you shouldn't just let people get away with outright bullshit. If you don't call out a liar then they'll think it's ok to do in the future as well. It's abhorrent manipulative behavior.

They used to say the camera adds ten pounds, now it seems to subtract thirty.

"report a fattie" button

HAHAHAHAHHA

I LAUGHED TOO MUCH AT THAT

[–]Endorsed ContributorRedBigMan 0 points1 point2 points 12 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

This would actually make some sense.

Alternatively... You could have people rating each other rather than people rating themselves and take the average ratings of all dates since it'll be pretty close to reality.

[–][deleted] 27 points28 points29 points 12 years ago (13 children) | Copy Link

I don't understand why so many people feel it is shallow to judge based on a factor of appearance you have complete control over (minus some medical conditions, but that would be a small % of people). It shows work ethic to stay in shape. It shows you are likely to be better in bed because of increased stamina and flexibility. Working out benefits your mood and sleep habits. So many benefits to being in shape and yet they assume that it is ONLY physical attractiveness. Some guys even prefer "fatties!"

I doubt they would just overlook some guy who showed up in old clothes that hadn't been washed in months... that level of neglect shows you don't care about yourself. So does being a whale, ladies.

[–][deleted] 8 points9 points10 points 12 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

Neither do I, I was specifically addressing the fact that so many people see weight as a taboo subject. Fuck that, you did it, deal with it.

[–]angryadult 9 points10 points11 points 12 years ago (8 children) | Copy Link

I enjoy chubbies, but not fatties. Like, your belly can't be hanging, but if there's a little pudge, that's cool. If your thighs are soft and big, but no cellulite, that's cool. No rolls when you are standing up.

Unfortunately, there are no women who will be honest and say they're "fat" when they are.

[–][deleted] 12 points13 points14 points 12 years ago (7 children) | Copy Link

Cellulite can happen even in skinnier girls, it isn't specifically because of being fat.

[–]LifterofThings 6 points7 points8 points 12 years ago (3 children) | Copy Link

Pretty much every woman over the age of 18 has some somewhere. I watched a fitness competition not too long ago, and even at ~10% bodyfat, a fairly large proportion of the women still had dimply butts/thighs.

[–]destraht 0 points1 point2 points 12 years ago (2 children) | Copy Link

I once went to a enclavish party right outside of a heavy vegetarian hippy town. I was excited at the prospect of nailing some hippy pussy but when I got there I was super skinny women with cellulite. I'd never seen something so pronounced as this. Anyways so I read up about it and asked a lot of questions.

[–]LifterofThings 0 points1 point2 points 12 years ago (1 child) | Copy Link

Hippie pussy, eh? Hope you have a machete on hand for the jungle bush ;)

[–]destraht 0 points1 point2 points 12 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

I can handle that but the hairy ankles on my neck is indeed rather contrary to my ideal preference.

[–]iseeyou1312 -3 points-2 points-1 points 12 years ago (1 child) | Copy Link

We aren't talking about 50 year old women...

[–][deleted] 3 points4 points5 points 12 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

Loose skin != cellulite.

I don't understand what point you're attempting to make.

[–]destraht -1 points0 points1 point 12 years ago* (0 children) | Copy Link

Cellulite is toxic waste being surrounded by fat to isolate it. The body doesn't want to process that shit so it puts it away in the fat and will do whatever it takes to not have to deal with it. The amount of it that I have varies with the types of food that I'm eating. If I go on a fast for days while drinking lots of water and then I eat a bunch of avacados afterwards then I can significantly smooth that fat out. It does slowly come back but that is because of shit that I'm eating. I like to fast and purge out toxins whenever I leave the country. I'll do it a few weeks before I leave and then I'll fatten back up with proper fats that are actually more available than what I had before. Its a bitch to be detoxing at the same time that you are starving. Thats the problem with fat people - they've been fat for way too long and they subconciously know that burning fat makes them feel like shit.

[–]invisiblephrend 2 points3 points4 points 12 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

fat chicks are indeed terrible in bed. not going down that road again.

[–]3trplurker 0 points1 point2 points 12 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

Two reasons. First is about protecting women's SMV and ego by shaming anyone who talks about judging them. Second is about the multi-billion USD industry that's evolved to cater to being nice to fatties.

Someone who is horrifically overweight has some serious mental issues that need resolving. They are using the dopamine fix from excessive food to self medicate similar to what other drug addicts do (alcoholics / ect..).

[–]No_disintegrations27 points28 points29 points 12 years ago* (3 children) | Copy Link

If they've been able to filter by height and income all this time, it's only logical.

[–]RedPillScare 2 points3 points4 points 12 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

"Fatty" leaves space for someone to say "she has a pretty face."

That would be inaccurate.

[–]McMurphyCrazy 3 points4 points5 points 12 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

The whales I see on that site I'm not surprised.

[–]ANALGAPE 1 point2 points3 points 12 years ago (2 children) | Copy Link

Didn't the ceo come out about a year ago and shamed men looking for casual sex on the site?

[–]30years 6 points7 points8 points 12 years ago (1 child) | Copy Link

I am 50. Markus, the founder, recently said that they would no longer allow me to choose to be matched with anyone more than 15 years younger, because that's just about sex.

Dating is just about sex, everything else is smoke and mirrors. It's either about women trying to trade sex for commitment or men trying to trade commitment for sex.

[–]icallmyselfmonster 3 points4 points5 points 12 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

For some reason it works out about 10 years because I can't search for people younger that 22 being 32 in my profile.

It's one of the worst sites for guys, if you send messages that are too short, you will be flagged as a looking for intimate encounters (irrespective of what you actually sent) and then you can't contact most women.

I'd consider myself curvy in a good way. I'm slender, but I have athletic thighs from soccer, a butt and breasts. 34-25-35.

I'm not 'thin'... Nor 'athletic'... Would I just mark average?

I don't disagree from having filters on body type... I just don't think the current way to go about it is all that helpful.

[–]luxury_banana 0 points1 point2 points 12 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

As long as it's self-reporting, people will lie and put up "myspace angle"/older pictures and sometimes setup awkward meet-ups as a result. It's only as useful as people are honest.

[–][deleted] 4 points5 points6 points 12 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

This is not in any way new.

[–]B_Campbell 1 point2 points3 points 12 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

New? It's been like that for as long as I can remember.

[–]jakenichols 1 point2 points3 points 12 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

This is so the uglies and fatties slowly phase themselves out of existence. No ugly or fatty wants to date an ugly or a fatty, and neither does anyone else.

[–]LuciusExitius 3 points4 points5 points 12 years ago (1 child) | Copy Link

I'm a fatty and I approve of this lol. But you have been able to do this forever, they have probably just made it a paid feature now. Good rule of thumb, always limit at LEAST one size below what you want.

[–]drebin8 1 point2 points3 points 12 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

It's been a paid feature for a while. Nothing changed.

[–]Falstafff 1 point2 points3 points 12 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

This is the second article I've seen on this. I don't know why these journalists think this is something new, they've had this feature for at least a year, which is how long I've been an OkCupid A-lister.

[–]Opioidus 0 points1 point2 points 12 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

You should see what you date in person, that's why I never use online dating sites. As it's been said before, 90% of what men do in terms of seduction and dating is to avoid rejection, turning to online encounters where you don't have to endure face to face rejection from women is one other wrong way to handle this fear, and like all other ways of 'avoidance', it'll just destroy your chances of hooking up with what you want/deserve.

Get out there and start picking hot, slim chicks, because no hot woman has the need to go online, and the ones that do are there just for an ego boost.
