You know those scratch and dent sales at big box stores, where people go and are able to get a fridge or dishwasher they normally couldn’t afford? Of course with the understanding that their shiny new purchase is a bit flawed. This is how people with low economic value (money) are able to get their hands on some designer stainless steel instead of the Walmart white plastic they’d normally have to settle for.

Every once and a while I see a guy with low SMV and the girl on his arm is inconceivably too attractive for him. These are the most frustrating pairings to see, because on the surface they disprove TRP theory and even worse, make it seem like I’m fucking wasting my time eating grilled chicken and busting my ass in the gym.

Chubby and unambitious Billy Beta is dating and keeping a hot girl that he does not possibly have the SMV to afford. So what gives?

Chances are that Billy Beta got his GF at a metaphorical Scratch and Dent Sale. The only reason he had the SMV to acquire her as a sexual partner is because SHE has some flaw that prevents HER from demanding full SMV asking price from a potential mate. As a result, SHE is able to be obtained by a much lower SMV mate.

Scratched and Dented hot girls come in several variations, here are the ones I witness:

  • Scratch and Dent: She has a kid. Obviously with a father who isn’t the beta.

  • Scratch and Dent: She’s on the wrong side of 25, and most of her SMV is about to expire/has expired.

  • Scratch and Dent: She has health issues. She has or at the time of dating had some serious medical condition (bipolar disorder, depression, fibromyalgia)

  • Scratch and Dent: She’s super financially unstable. Usually for reasons relating to prolonged flightiness or hedonistic behavior, she has a part time/minimum wage job, bad credit, and literally would starve to death or move back in with mom and dad if no one adopted her.

I think the Scratch and Dent theory also explains why we often see these Betas put up with so much bullsh*t from their scratch and Dent girlfriend.

Extreme example: “Yeah she doesn’t work, is too depressed to ever have sex, and paying for a step kid is a bummer, but I’m not going to leave her” - Billy Beta

The ultimate kicker in all of this is that deep down Billy knows that he got her at a Scratch and Dent Sale, and knows that if he broke up with her today, the replacement he would have to settle for would be a 3 or 4 instead of 7.
