ADHD meds are a lifesaver to those that need it. You won't be succesful because of them by any means. It's a tool your body needs to thrive.

Do you meditate daily? That's like one of the first things they suggest for any sort of issue like that. Do a 21-day meditation challenge and see what that does for you. I wouldn't be putting anything in my body. But that's a personal thing.

My brother has ADHD and it was diagnosed very late (in his twenties). It was a source of frustration for my (now deceased) father, so my brother was beaten quite a lot when he was a child, because of bad school results (and shitty father).

Before being diagnosed, and I guess because of family issues (divorce, fight for who gets the kid), my brother drowned in bad life, took drugs of all sorts, had problems with police etc...

Now he's building strong, it has been several years, and he ingested various amount of Ritalin at various moments, following his stance on this medicament.

Here's what he explained to me:

According to him, Ritalin makes him more like a zombie, whereas for normal people (without ADHD) it is an exciting drug. He claims coffee has a similar effect.

He wasn't able to eat Ritalin regularly, because it's depressing for him (being a zombie for prolonged time...), so he didn't experience the extra benefit from taking it regularly, as I can read it mentioned here, whether this exists or not.

He thinks that, still now, he need to take Ritalin when he has to work with people. He doesn't need it just for living, or working alone (though it helps, it is not necessary). His unconstrained mental activity is extremely disrupting for group activity, Ritalin helps alot there.

He has no idea what that means for your profession "semi-professionnal comic", but as he works on stage aswell, he's dubious you'll always work alone so you need to know how Ritalin makes you. He said that in his case, Ritalin helps him tune with people, and without it maybe you're more genius, but you could also be unaware how "not genius at all" you are. He didn't like how you were saying Ritalin would be a magic drug that makes you successful. If anything, your ADHD could be something that makes you successful; but Ritalin isn't. It's not a "genius" pill.

Lastly, do you realize you're asking this on redpill? If you were a pot smoker, would you ask this on a pot smoker forum?? You ask this as if you wanted Redpill's benediction. WTF.

I was diagnosed with ADHD in the third grade...right before I was tested for the gifted program. I skipped the fourth grade completely and fit right in with the older kids as a fifth grader. I took Ritalin from 3rd grade to my senior year of high school, then stopped before joining the Army (would have been bad, mmkay?)

Now, at 31, I take extended release Adderall. I went from doing 15 things at once and only getting 1 done, to doing 5 things at once and completing them all. My production and focus increase sent me from a $29k a year job to a $50k a year job in less than six months. There is an easy to see difference between medicated me and non-medicated me.

Meds for true ADHD are not a cheat code, they are nearly a necessity if you want to succeed.

ADHD drugs are stimulants. They will help you get shit done — studying, organization. When you want to be all zany and creative, you don't take them. When you want to be hyperfocused and productive on just one thing, you do.

Put another way: do you think that all those famous comics and musicians and finance guys are on coke all the time because they just like being high? No. They like being productive.

If you're going to be on crank, it's much safer to get it from your doctor. Recommended.

This is a very enlightening lecture given by one of the authorities of ADD. I recommend you check it out.

As for meds, try em for a month, it that med doesn't work for you try another one, until you eventually try them all and find that they don't work for you or you find one that makes a positive difference on your life. Taking meds is not necessarily an either/or situation.

I took them and it did wonders for me. But I legitimately had ADHD. Not like "lol I have ADHD tumblr diagnosis" "oh me too I have autism also lol". If your really do suffer is incredible. I never had to struggle to grasp anything. Just went to class and got all As and Bs.

I'd advice against it. they reak havoc on your body. that being said, they've helped me incredibley with socializing and completing tasks, but I feel now (being off of them now that school is out) I've exhausted my brain. I feel fried. what symptoms are you exhibiting?

Those meds are grossly over prescribed. I abused them all through high school and college years without ever being prescribed, due to such an abundance of access. I'm not saying don't use them, but I did see them have a very negative "zombie" affect on my friends that were perscribed. Might want to pick up a copy of the UltraMind Solution and give a good look at your diet while considering your options.

Your brain literally works different than a normal person. Watch all these videos. Learn about the condition. There is no asterix for taking meds that help your brain behave normally.

Psychostimulants improve kids with "ADD" or "ADHD" scores the same as "normal" kids. If you want your scores improved and have trouble concentrating in class there does not appear to be many serious long-term problems with their use.

You do not have ADHD unless you have a diagnosis. Why would you even consider this when you don't have a diagnosis yet? The question should be, "Do I have ADHD?" and you would not ask here- you would ask a psychiatrist.

Once you have the diagnosis, then you take the meds. The meds are a result of thousands of scientists, researchers, doctors, and incredible geniuses who know what they are talking about.

Ok I was diagnosed with ADHD (Type 2, inattentive) when I was 25.

I take a very low dose (60mg) of adderall when I am working. I don't take it on weekends or when I am doing chump work like I am now.

I would suggest that you take the drugs for a 6 month period, and have a look at what behaviors go away, and what ones strengthen.

It was like Night and Day for me when I was first on them. I noticed a whole heap of behaviors that had pissed people off disappeared overnight.

Things like;

Self medicating with Caffeine - I was doing this with red bull, it does not help your body when you're downing 3-4 just to get work done.
Butting into conversations - it's an impulse control thing ADHD makes worse
"huh what?" - My mind was constantly "elsewhere" and it pissed people off when they thought I wasn't listening to them
Lack of attention to detail at work - This still sucks, and I need to accept I am not a detail orientated person, but it sucks LESS when I am on my meds.
Can complete boring tasks - ADHD makes it impossible to do stuff that bores the shit out of you, but needs to be done. Being on my meds helps me actually get the mundane done.

There are a bunch of other things too, but you need to be on the meds a bit to notice them.

Once you know the bad behaviors, you can start training yourself out of them so when you are off your meds they are a lot less severe.

There are some other things you need to be aware of mainly that adderall and other ADHD drugs can have an anxiety side effect that can creep up on you over time. You need to develop some self awareness, and if you're freaking the fuck out over random, un important stuff then you need to go on a "drug holiday" for a while.

Don't fret too much over it. I'm ADHD and I am being offered a 150K / year job because I am an awesome situational / big picture type of planner.

You just need a little help to figure out your niche is all.
