The most distilled definition of an Alpha is a successful man, with regards to romance and life in general. By that token 'alpha behaviour' is that which leads to success.

I'm glad you made this post because there has been a disproportional amount of noise being generated that simply not giving a fuck about your station in life is tantamount to success. It's not. Being able to find happiness with your current situation doesn't mean that you wouldn't be happier if you achieved the success you want.

Being aloof often leads to success, but it's not the be-all end-all.

You make some good points, but defining alpha by desire is a bit circular. It makes the statement "alpha fucks, beta bucks" rather trivial, no?

I agree that an alpha will draw vagingles, but using that as a definition is like defining a criminal as someone who's in jail: It's a consequence, not a cause.

Alpha = Confident/Proactive

Beta = Insecure/Passive

Betas have their alpha moments and alphas have their beta moments so it's on a spectrum, but as a totality the criteria holds.

Actually, the most common mistake is not understanding what Alpha means, as you have. And the distinction is quite important. Alpha is not a mindset and it doesn't describe a person. Alpha is used to describe individual behaviors. Most people extrapolate this to mean that alpha men only display alpha behaviors, but that's not true. It's pretty well understood in TRP that alpha men also need to display some beta behavior from time to time if they want to keep a woman around. You can't just not give a fuck 100% of the time in a relationship.

Great post, but I want to expand a bit.

There are two components of being an alpha: alpha looks (outer) and alpha behavior (inner). Both are required to be a greater alpha, and both are affected by genetics.

Take a look at apes for example. According to biology, the alpha ape is a large ape (outer) and the leader (inner). It is important not to confuse outer (size/looks) as the only alpha measure. The largest ape is not necessarily the alpha of the group if he doesn't have inner alpha behavior. A slightly smaller ape who has balls, speed, and functional power to challenge and scare off the larger cowardly ape is the alpha of the group.

Anyone who is successful with women knows that inner can also create vagina tingles: confidence, intelligence, stoicism, swag, coolness, etc. Women instinctively want good genetics which includes inner and outer. They don't want kids that are big and dumb. They instinctively want a man with intelligence as well. That's why they are initially attracted to your outer and then shit test your inner.

I agree alpha brings out desire in women, but that is also an incomplete defintion IMO, desire is the consequence of alpha, not the cause.

This is only true in part because we have to maintain law, order, and rule in society/civilization. Many of these behaviors that trigger carnal lust in women aren't compatible in such a setting, and that's why the guys who get with women are typically labeled as douchebags/assholes.

Be attractive.
Don't be unattractive.

"Alphas" are attractive. Attraction is a combination of mindsets, habits, and behaviors that lead to success as well as context. An "Alpha" has those fundamental mindsets, habits, and behaviors and has mastered his social context. That gives women tingles, and tingles are indeed a great litmus test of one's SMV.

Alpha by some definition would probably just be the best person for adaptation.

It means knowing what you think is important, and doing everything in your power to do that. Which also means not caring about other's thoughts, because you should be more adaptable than them because you're at your edge and pushing yourself.

It's not about someone else's desire, that woman might not fit into your world view of what adaptation means. Besides, what she desires is irrelevant, what you desire is all that's important.

One note, I think that the foundation of unlocking Alpha is adapting a mindset of self-worth and self-value, then moving forward. It's true though, being an alpha isn't about not caring. But also, alpha is a perception thing and I don't see why we are not talking about that more.

The question had recently chanced upon me; how do we define the “Alpha Male?” It has never come up before, but I can’t say I’m surprised. The concept is taken for granted and given a certain degree of flexibility. We hear the term “Alpha Male” and we mechanically imagine a prototype figure with very specific characteristics depending on our unique perception of masculinity. But if you REALLY try and DEFINE what it means to be Alpha, in a universal sense, the complications quickly become evident as you realize the obvious exceptions in every representation.

“He has money” â‡’ Tyler Durden is poor

“He’s hilarious and easy going” â‡’ James Bond is not

“He’s extremely masculine” â‡’ Was Rudolph Valentino?

“He always has a positive impact on the world around him” â‡’Fascist dictators?

“He’s Loyal” â‡’ Bill Clinton?

The above was a quick demonstration, but you could imagine the problems inherent in each paragon. The most commonly accepted barometer at this point, and possibly the one closest to perfection (until now), is a scale that uses a man’s ability to procure pussy as a means to measure his degree of Alphaness. In some ways this makes sense. A man’s primary objective is to reproduce, and a women’s primary objective is to find an Alpha Male she can both reproduce and utilize. BUT…

(a) Were not SEVERAL of the greatest luminaries in the world virgins?

(b) The primary goal of game (as expressed in this blog) is to defer women to only compliments to one’s life, this perception shifts them back unto the center

(c) This standard only assumes dominance over women, NOT dominance over men. An Alpha can be purely dominant over men but oblivious to game for other reasons.

(d) The comparisons between men become extremely hazy. Bill Clinton slept with less women than many of the other Alphas you can think of, but 1 on 1 it would be no contest.

So after a few minutes of thinking of the various ways people define Alphas, and even the traits they assume to be FUDAMENTALLY Alpha, which, in reality, are far more ductile than they think; I’ve come up with a solution.

Power.

I like it for the very reason that it’s vague, and overly obvious in some ways. It is all encompassing and allows us to use the term Alpha more liberally. Each Alpha, regardless of their exceptional qualities, has one thing in common. Power. Even that socially awkward philosopher is powerful, in the realm of knowledge. And that lazy fat Alpha who sits at home, drinks beer, and yells at his wife has power; via indifference (or in this case, the LACK of the power the world asserts over him).

Note also that depending on who’s idea of “Alpha” you’re taking on, everything changes. Over here I emphasize qualities like ambition and standards like a good physique, but these are NOT dominantly “Alpha Traits.” They are MORE COMMON in Alphas, the same way feminism is more common in fat women or inflated egos in American women, but just to be clear, they are not fundamental. I’m not saying you shouldn’t have them, only trying to avoid that same totalizing approach I aptly criticize elsewhere.

I was complacent for a long time, and I couldn't tell why I was getting rejected. After getting into TRP through friends, I have made a more concentrated effort toward my image and to be Alpha in this since.

This has a critical truth in it. A lot of guys aspire to alpha but the truth is, a lot of alpha traits are shitty traits (dark triad). Not all, but a lot. The whole reason society created bluepill was so that shitty alpha traits would not become too common and destroy civilization.

My two cents:

An alpha knows what his passions in life are

An alpha has a mission in life

An alpha has a code he abides by

An alpha is always looking for the win-win situation

An alpha is easy going

An alpha is always improving himself: socially, intellectually, physically, financially

An alpha is a take charge guy, when the situation requires it

An alpha cares about his fellow man/woman and is always willing to lend a hand when he can (goes under the win-win category)

An alpha does not let others influence his emotional state

An alpha is always polite and exhibits good manners

That's about all I can think of in the limited time I have right now.

Absolutely not. A real alpha male respects the World around him and generally is a positive influence on the World. Yes, he puts himself first, but also has the self-control and restraint to adhere to moral values.

A person who takes 10 lives to satisfy some internal sick desire, and then gets locked up by society for the rest of his life, is as big of a loser scum as humanly possible. That is not alpha.
