Whelp, I just posted that we need more financial advice here, so time to do something about it, neh?

I used to be a rich man. Not that I had a yacht or any shit like that, but that I had no debt and my income well exceeded my lifestyle. Then shit happened and I ended up in a lot of debt that I didn't really start paying off seriously for far too long: I wanted to continue living the way I had. I wanted to live a blue pill lie about how finances worked rather than face the reality of what I needed to do to get out of debt and get back to where I was.

Dave Ramsey is a great author for helping you out of debt and back into financial sustainability. He has a number of books that can help you out depending on where you are at in getting yourself to debt-free living. If you need help getting out of debt, I'd recommend The Total Money Makeover, but if you just want the "guts" of the book without the fluff, he even offers that for free online here.

The book does have some value just over the steps: it will help you understand why debt is not necessary, why it's not good for you, and some of the myths surrounding "good debt" are busted.

Can you pick up chicks while following the plan? I do it. Of course, a purist would gripe a bit about my bar budget (yes, going to the bar is a budget item for me) as I could pay down my debt faster were I to prioritize debt repayment over going out. But they are my priorities, my choices, and I understand the tradeoffs I am making.

What I've read of Dave, he is the financial red pill. He will give you the truth about finances just like posters here give you the truth about women. What you do with that truth is up to you.
