My GF suggested a show called Girls and, not expecting much, I gave it a shot and am fascinated for a couple of reasons.

First, the show is a goldmine of RP. I have seen evidence of hamstering, wall hitting, men as constant suspects, women as constant victims, female privilege, women picking fights expecting men to come to their rescue, beta men, etc...

It is about four women that live in NYC and are completely self absorbed and treat each other awfully. It's meant to be funny but much of the humor comes from how awful the women are.

Two of the women have an STD and pass it on to men without any warning. One of them got upset and blamed a guy she thinks gave it to her and chews him out for not warning her then proceeds to go out and fuck several people without telling them.

She also almost threatens her boss with a sexual harassment lawsuit if he doesn't fuck her.

There are many other examples of their awful behavior but I won't get into it. It is played for laughs.

It made me think of a show I really used to like- Eastbound and Down and I realized how similar they are. Both are written and created by the star of the show, someone overweight that decides to play someone obnoxious for laughs. The only difference is the audience of EBAD are supposed to laugh at what an asshole Kenny Powers is but the audience of Girls are expected to identify with the main character.

All the girls on the show are awful, self centered, entitled princesses but the audience, like the characters themselves, aren't supposed to realize it. While people are watching EBAD and laughing at what a dickhead KP is (most of the time), the creator of Girls expects women to root for the main character.

Funny that no woman I've met ever liked EBAD, yet it's very similar to Girls in many ways. It's very RP as well.

There could be an argument that Girls is meant as a warning to keep women from acting that way but more likely it seems to be promoting it.
