Miseducation of a Nation

The average American boy attends elementary and middle schools in which “more than 80 percent of teachers are women.” (1)

By High School, the American boy predictably begins to fall behind his female classmates. In 2015, “56% of the students in the top 10 percent of their graduating classes” and “59% of the students graduating with an A+ grade point average were female.” (2)

The gender disparity becomes more pronounced in college. The government’s National Center for Education Statistics reports that women “account for the majority of college students: about 11.5 million females will attend in fall 2015, compared with 8.7 million males.” (3) Despite women making up a clear majority of the student body, American universities are still hotbeds for feminist rhetoric about the institutional oppression of women. Go figure.

Where do all of those unaccounted-for men go? The fact that 93.4% of federal inmates are male should give you a clue. (4)

After slogging through this feminine-dominated education system, seven out of 10 young American males will graduate in debt - $28,950 worth on average. (5)

Welcome to America.

The point of this post, however, is not to paint American men as victims. Giving into victimization is weak and unacceptable. In regards to the gender inequities in our education system, we have two options:

1) Change the system

2) Leave

There are no alternatives. Don’t make Facebook posts, don’t get in heated debates, and don’t get emotional. Learning a trade, taking online courses, developing skills you can freelance with (coding, blogging, etc.) are all practical and have done wonders for many men.

Existential Crisis

If you look at a graph of population, or consider Moore’s law about computing power doubling every year, you will confirm what people already intuitively feel: we are living in accelerated times. This is The Great Quickening, a technological revolution coupled with a population explosion that is fundamentally changing what it means to be a human being (and especially, a man.)

In the last fifty years we have seen almost all the bedrocks of the American male experience fade away. Manufacturing jobs? Outsourced to China (and increasingly done by robots.) Traditional morality and religion? Irrelevant in the age of progressivism and science. Universities as places to engage in serious study? Your local social justice warrior would like to have a word with you about that.

Things are moving so fast that we haven’t had a chance to gain a proper understanding of where we are going. We need a new philosophy of life to thrive in this society, but simply haven’t had the time to write one out yet.

No wonder mental illness is now at an all-time high amongst American youth. (6)

The New Man

As a community, we must come together to develop a working philosophy for life in a feminist-leaning society dominated by technology. We need to accept that this era in no way resembles the country our grandfathers grew up in.

Again, it is imperative that we don’t give into victimization, sexism, or romanticizing the past. We are better than that and we will adapt. Now more than ever, we need to remain poised and rational. I will be posting my thoughts on the attributes of this "New Man" soon, and would like to hear your guy's thoughts on it as well.
