It's a red flag is it when a girl is into dancing i.e taking lessons, competition etc. Because of the same reasons OP gave; the gender imbalance, you know she's getting tingles being held and grabbed by other guys. Of course she will hamster to you "it's just a sport", but there is without a doubt an implied sexual dynamic at play and an environment where she is getting validation and intimate physical contact with many single guys that are all trying to fuck her.

How many of you would be comfortable with your LTR disappearing to dancing classes a couple times a week? Meeting up with dancing partners for "practice"? Good luck with that.

Seems like a giant red flag, on par with girls that regularly go dancing in clubs.

Having recently met a girl who goes to these ballroom dancing classes, I can say it is absolutely a dealbreaker for LTR.

Edit: I am not saying "fuck dancing" or making a criticism of the OP's point. I agree that dancing can be a great way to meet girls and give them the tingles. The problem for a LTR is the same one: it is a great way for girls to meet men and get the tingles. If you enjoy it and if you take the time to master it you can give off some serious alpha vibes. I am also not talking about girls that have a casual interest in ballroom dancing, gone to a few classes etc. My experience specifically relates to a girl that was deeply into ballroom dancing as a sport - practicing every week, competing etc. There are red flags on these type of girls because of the nature of the sport and the intimacy that is involved with dance partners. I'm also not saying these girls are automatic write-offs, it's still just a warning sign. I would have given my dancing girl a chance if she had quit completely from the beginning - but she didn't and that is what limited her to the plate-zone.

I have 10 years experience with variants of swing. A word of warning. A lot of these dance studios use pushy sales tactics. They also give you a very flirtatious dance instructor who suckers you in with a fantasy girlfriend routine. Women also get the situational alpha dancer partner of an instructor as an escape from their beta husband.

Learning doesn't have to be as expensive as OP mentioned. Get in good with a guy who is better than you. Get him to show you steps. Watch youtube videos. Practice the footwork and timing on your own.

Formal lessons are a big help and it's good to pay for them but beware of getting suckered in.

Also, the Fred Astaire and Arthur Murray franchise studios are particularly bad for squeezing money out or you. Their curriculum is rigid and they will advance you slowly so that you pay up. Also, their style of dance may not be very similar to the local variant of swing and salsa for example, and thus you can get stuck in their ecosystem. You end up with skills that aren't so applicable to outside venues.

I live next to an event hall place that has Lindy Hop on Wednesdays and Salsa on Sundays. Both nights are packed. Swing night seems to have a better ratio of women to men. Salsa is a sausage fest.

I've been dancing irregularly for a couple of years but honestly I'm a slow learner. I'd probably have more fun and learn quicker if I had a regular dance partner. But if I did, then I wouldn't have a need to go dancing now would it?

As someone who loves many forms of partner dance, I'd have to say that there are other more time-efficient ways to increase your SMV. In my experience, you should dance because you love it because the cost/benefit ratio for increasing your SMV is very low (until you become very good and start dancing at international events which takes years of practice).

The time and costs outlined by the OP are accurate unless you happen to be a student at a university with a strong dancing community in which case you can trade some of your time for costs in order to become skilled at your particular form of partner dance.

Arguments against taking the dance route to increased SMV are:

As mentioned, it is a large time and money sink. If you love to dance then it is worth it. If you're doing it for the girls, you'll be disappointed by the ROI.
You're going to need a wardrobe for dancing which includes dance shoes and outfits for all the particular dances. Some dances are a bit more down-to-earth (e.g. swing) and jeans/t-shirt are somewhat acceptable. For other types of dances (salsa, ballroom, tango) you'll have to dress up. Shoes, however, are an absolute requirement.
For a man, it's a steep learning curve. Women will naturally want to dance with the more experienced leads and this makes learning all the more difficult. The best route to take is to go in with a high SMV to begin with (e.g. be muscular and well-groomed) and then the better follows will be more likely to put up dancing with you. The local dance community can be quite closed and tight-knit, so if you date anyone in the community, word will spread fast, and if you're a player, word will spread even faster. You might be one of the most skilled dancers out there but a few accusations can ruin everything for you.
Since the local community is tight-knit, you'll have to travel to dance events in other locations both to meet new partners and to expand your dance horizons. This can be very costly unless you are an instructor being paid to travel.
As with any skill-based community, you'll be judged by your dance ability and this will limit you socially. People will generally hang with other people based on their ability. Look at the dance instructors - who do they hang out with? Who do they date? Answer: other instructors. You'll need to reach a reasonable skill level in order to make social inroads.
It's not particularly applicable in normal life. If you lift, people will see your muscles everywhere. If you sing, or play an instrument, you can perform anywhere. Argentine Tango? You need a milonga (tango dance venue) and a partner. I know some dance champions and their coworkers would have never guessed that they were badasses at their particular dance. The wardrobe/shoes you invested your time/money to obtain will also largely be unwearable outside of dance events, unless the clothes are very formal.

All that being said, I'd highly recommend all men to take some local dance classes. It is tremendous fun and it is also the fastest cure for hover-hand that I know of. If you are awkward with women, dance classes will force you to get hands-on with them and soon you'll be comfortable holding and guiding women with your hands and body. It's also an amazing experience walking up to a woman who doesn't even speak your language and conversing with her via the music and dance.

Dance lessons can be a great thing to do with a girl on a date. Though there are a couple of caveats.

Do not rotate. Depending on the number of people present, there is a good chance you will not dance with her again.
Neither of you should dance with other people. Do the lesson without rotating, dance with her for a couple of songs. Grab a drink and talk then dance some more. Leave before you get tired. Don't let her dance with other guys.

Good stuff. I'm going with swing dancing because of the vibrancy of the local scene. I think the point of not taking a date/plate/gf to classes is a huge point, to which I'll add your main venue should not ge a hunting ground. It's a great place to flirt but implying you're not on the market is probably a good idea. Being able to dance in other venues is the goal (outside of the other benefits of dancing).

Can confirm that dancing attracts girls. I danced 8th grade through high school doing hip hop moves.

Prom comes along, not expecting much, so I dance on the stage, everyone takes out phones and records, screaming. SMV rises and one of these girls eye fucks me, then I grind on her.

Regarding SMV in this post - sorry, but that's complete horseshit. Yeah - the longer you dance the better you will look. But even if you dance only for 1 year regularly 3 to 5 hours a week - people will think of you as a good dancer. It def. also depends on your level of skill, musicality and swag but starting to dance is the most imporant step!!

I know how to dance Tango and Milonga. I have danced Tango in Argentinian milonga bars for years. It improved my balance posture and improved the way I walk. It improved my self confidence.

Women love it when leading them on the floor. They melt in your arms. Especially if they have never danced before.

Besides tango is really easy to learn, teachers make it look very complicated to earn extra money from their students.

I disagree with the OP that it takes 1 year to learn to dance. That is so demotivating to think it takes as -A general rule of thumb is 1 year to proficiency learn to dance- Except ofcourse if you want to be a professional stage dancer where you condition or program your body to be a full pro dancer.

There is posture , compas and the basic steps, 5 lessons maximum then you just go out to dance halls and improvise and enjoy.

After tango I also did Cumbia and Salsa.I learned it in no time.

I'm about to begin taking dance classes within the next month or so. But for me, I'm not doing it with the expectation that my dance skills are going to get me laid. But I never dance, total beginner. So what I'm after is to learn something new, get outside of my comfort zone, have fun, and learn enough dancing skill that I can get on a dance floor and be passable. It gives me an opportunity to meet women, but not necessarily impress them with dancing skill. I'll depend on other social skills to build attraction. Being able to dance still has value if your not an expert.
