I was going to write a long post on why lifting isn't good enough, but a retired NHLer beat me to it so I thought I'd post it here. Take a read, it's well worth it.

Now, I realize that 95% of us don't have insane fathers like Patrick's...I'd say the fathers we have are more tepid. Hell, my father didn't even really support me in my athletic endeavours and I almost made it playing professional soccer...and before you say it's a BP wussy sport, I was a goalie. Try flinging your body at a ball that comes at you at 100 mph or at multiple bodies that weigh combined over 400 lbs.

I digress. Lifting helps, but it alone isn't good enough. Because if you want to be the best version of yourself, you need game. It's no coincidence Rollo Tomassi said it in his blog where if there's one thing you need of the three, it's game.

To give the TLDR of the article in RP context: Do you understand yourself? Do you understand game? Do you understand the opposite sex? Because if you don't, no amount of lifting or running is gonna fucking save your life. You either have it or you don't. When you are good at game? When you're having fun, being creative, and not afraid to fail. You are getting better when you don't even realize it (so true even when you lift).

The good news though, in TRP is that you can learn it and improve yourself. It's much easier to do that than learning a sport and having the right mental state. I speak from experience here. I had the skills to make it playing soccer but didn't have a strong mental game.

Read up, study, concentrate, and learn. It will go a long way.
