After making the mistake of having an intense sexual encounter with my next door neighbor, I felt an immense amount of shame and guilt. However, as the week went on those feelings dissipated and I was beginning to get back on track emotionally. He explained to me that he still holds feelings for his ex and that he is still healing from their breakup. From the details he provided, it is clear that he strung her along for 9 years and the moment his ex demanded that they make it official via marriage, he bailed because the prospect of giving up his family-sponsored apartment and his rock n roll lifestyle at 37 proved to be too precious. All these details lead me to believe that he is a LVM who feels entitled to the company and time of beautiful, smart, and ambitious young women without providing much in return. As much as I felt sexually drawn to him and his “artsy” persona, I decided that pursing anything further would just be a disaster. Therefore, I decided to create some distance between us. Although I can’t completely block & delete him from my life, as he lives in the apartment next door, I have decided to keep our interactions to a minimum. I figured he’d get the message and just let me be, but he goes out of his way to insert himself in my life. He calls, texts, and video calls me several times wanting to know about my day and wanting to talk about his. When I silence/block his notifications he “conveniently” runs into in the hall or at our apartment building’s front entrance, and he insists on me explaining I him why I have been giving him such a cold response. He even tried to go in for a hug and a kiss when my best friend and I were taking pictures on our building’s front steps. He feels that he is owed my company and emotional labor even though he expressed he doesn’t seek a relationship. I fear he will now never leave me alone. How do I deal with a LVM who just won’t take “no” for an answer? I am so conditioned to be polite even when I feel uncomfortable. He seeks to triangulate me with his ex and make me a part of his emotional drama; and I am trying my hardest to resist, but it seems that I am being dragged into his mud anyway. Help! How do I harden my boundaries?
