2 - If you are in a line of business that it matters, you will probably LOSE more income buying a POS than you will save on the purchase price of a decent stylish car. Yes, like a Buick, the frugal man's Cadillac.

3 - Your woman said it is your decision - NEVER …. ASK her about it again, but do let her know what you have decided to do.

I can tell you from my experience. I drove a base model Toyota Tercel for 10 years it was a Get A-B car. My next car I got a 2 year old Audi A4. After the A4 I went to a jeep Cherokee, seemed a more reasonable family car.

I discovered at least for me, It did not matter if anyone actually saw me in my expensive car, when I had the Audi I had a boost to my self confidence and that self confidence showed. The boosted self confidence gave me more success at work and in life.

Ok you asked for it. Only dumbasses infer anything like success or status from the car one drives. Anyone with a modicum of savvy knows that any shlub willing to go into debt can buy a "status" car.

You buy whatever you want but don't imagine that people are going to suddenly think you are smart because you are driving a car that's main superiority over other cars is marketing dollars spent.

And do remember, you can look prosperous or you can BE prosperous but only a few of us have the luxury of doing both.

Your wife is right. A new car's value decreases as soon as you sit your ass on it and drive it off the lot. Spending money on a "flashy" car is a completely dumb move.
