Screw that. I've been lifting free weights by myself since Day 1. Get SL 5x5 on your phone. Start with the bar. That should keep you busy for at least a few months. I'm just now getting ready to break the 200 lb barrier on most of my 25 rep weights, so I will need a machine or a spotter before too long. But don't let spotting be an obstacle if you're doing it right and starting low.

You seem super OCD about a lot of this. Get out of your head and hers and learn to go with the flow more. Sure, measure what you're working on that needs measurement, but avoid analysis paralysis. It is a fun and momentum killer. Get moving and STFU is key here. Good luck.

You clearly have money... unless you spend it faster than you make it.. So one major suggestion;

1) Hire a professional trainer to teach you the compound lifts... with a barbell... Dont ask for a trainer to do some crossfit circuit or something... Just hire someone who is good to teach you the proper form for the squat, bench press, overhead press, deadlift, chin up, dip, bent over row. You need to get completely comfortable with the barbell... even if you need to sleep with it between you and your wife. Swimming is great for cardio and low-impact... but right now you need muscle growth. The benefit at your stage is that heavy compound lifts will burn fat for you (during the 48 hour muscle building post workout phase) faster than swimming or the gay treadmill.
