I've been separated from my ex for 6 months now. We were together for 10 years. I took a lot of abuse in the relationship and my self esteem was very low.

So now I'm out dating. It is going very well. I had one serious relationship and I'm just getting into a second one.

My biggest problem is continually reconciling who I was with who I now am, ie cognitive dissonance. It is extremely fatiguing.

When I was with my wife I knew who I was, ie who she told me I was. Under achieving, bad husband, etc. I allowed that message to be drilled into my head, for years. It was my identity.

Now I'm out with women who say I am "yummy" and they want to spend time with me and they can't figure out if they like me like me more for who I am because I'm fun or if they are just lusting after me because I'm sexy. WTF ? Yes I actually had a woman explain that me and then jump me.

The problem is that my mind spins for days after something like that happens. I get overloaded mentally. I have to get away from the woman for a few days and recalibrate my brain. Yes, I am desirable. Yes, I really do have my stuff together. Yes, she really wants to sleep with me again. That sort of thing.

Has anyone else run into this ? How do you deal with it ?
