I like to go backcountry camping.

It's a great workout carrying a heavy pack 10-15 miles round trip, and the cell service is either completely dead or so spotty it might as well be dead. I can relax there, I don't have to be anybody but myself, and the quiet is awesome.

Gonna try to find some other dudes to bring with me this spring, but thus far all my local friends are giant pussies and want to stay at campgrounds. Have a few friends who do backcountry camp in other states, might see if I can fly out to do some backpacking, sneak it in with a business trip.

Just in general, being around a bunch of other men, out in the woods, out on a boat, out at the gun range, that feels like a day off to me.

I take most Friday mornings off. I get up a little bit later, spend a bit longer in the bathroom showering and grooming, pick out my favourite clothes of the moment, then off I go to the office. I leave the car there, walk into town, spend about an hour shopping for bits and pieces I need for myself, then I go and have an extended brunch while I read a book.

For me, this is an essential part of my week. If you want time off, you make it yours.
