Acne and accutane?

I recently got done taking accutane for 5/6 months and it has been life changing. My acne had been the only thing holding back my confidence and I am happier than I ever have been. I know several people who’ve taken it and can say the same thing.

Do not let the temporary side effects for a couple months deter you from a lifetime of confidence. It sucks but it’s all worth it.

Some of my temporary side effects: night blindness(can barely see at night), EXTREME skin dryness, joint pain, muscle aches(this forced me to stop working out), EXTREME dehydration, EXTREMELY dry lips, LOTS of nose bleeds(you’ll need to get a humidifier for your room, before I did I was getting multiple nose bleeds a day), 1/3 of your previous alcohol tolerance, and easily sun burnt(I’d get a sunburn from walking to class some days). I also had to eventually get a moisturizer anti-dandruff shampoo since the usual anti-dandruff shampoos would just dry out my scalp further and cause super-dandruff and was MISERABLE.

Definitely get it if you can.

Don't let your acne get you down, it's probably nowhere near as bad as you think it is, in general others don't notice it as much as you think.

If you can't grow a good mustache, just shave it. It'll look way better

Trust me, accutane is the best thing that has happened to me last year. In just 3 months I have perfect facial skin, almost no acne on my back (where I had a lot). The only side effects you’ll notice are dry skin, lips and nose. Just use a lipstick a few times a day and you’ll be fine. The suicide and depression side effects are a myth. You’ll gain confidence, not lose it. Just don’t go with a high dose. I take 30-40mg per day for 1 year and everything is fine. Also shave that baby beard

I took accutane for about 3 months. I had mild joint pain (as a 20 year old) my face and hands got dry af and I was peeling a lot. I felt “off”. During my 4th month I decided stop taking accutane and completely cut out dairy and sugar for a few months and it worked. Try this first before taking a very powerful drug. Just look at yourself and say “it won’t always be like this”.

A girl I was seeing took it and complained of joint pain, hair loss, and experienced general dryness, yes even there. We’re in our 20’s. She ended up getting off of it as though it did reduce her acne it made her generally feel like shit

I’ve always had mild to moderate acne but my skin has responded quite well to the Ordinary Glycolic acid toner used every other evening with cotton pads, followed by Ordinary Niacinamide & Zinc serum applied over it. I've heard it can have bad side effects. Make sure you've tried every natural route first. Personally, doesn't seem worth it.

Certain foods can exacerbate acne, especially dairy. Make sure you aren't eating those.

Wash your face with a face wash twice a day. I used Clean n Clear Oil Free Face Wash.

Those steps cleared up my acne.

Get a 1L bottle and fill it with water
Carry it with you and make sipping it a habit
If you live near sea swim often.
Wash your face before and after bed but don’t dry it. Yes keep it wet
Overrated but dont touch your face fr.

Dont dry your face keep it wet after washing it because towel just mess it up.

Also fr overrated but dont stress it and think about it 24/7

Try tretinoin cream first - see if it works for you and you might not need the oral medication. You’re in the demographic that studies have suggested achieve the best results from accutane so you might have some success. Side effects are initial worsening of acne, dry skin/ eyes etc, photosensitivity (you need to wear sunscreen everyday). Also you can’t drink much alcohol while you’re on it.

I had accutane, when I was like 15 years old. That stuff is strong, your acne will definitely go away but the side effects are crazy. Your lips and eyes are literally dried out all the time, tiredness, you feel depressed, dropped my libido by a crapload. I remember being horny all day long, after roaccutane my libido went down a lot, I'm 23 now and still suffer from this.

Not sure if it lowers your testorone but I feel like it does.

Accutane is mainly for more severe cases of acne. I had cystic acne starting end of sophomore year of high school. Took accutane junior year of high school for 5 months and the acne just disappeared.

There have been a range of side effects. The biggest one I’ve experienced was extreme fatigue. My dad would pick me up from baseball practice and I couldn’t help, but pass out for the 30 min car ride to soccer practice. Well worth the side effects in my opinion, however not everyone will react the same to the medicine.

Edit: Forgot another big symptom was having chapped lips 24/7 and just peeling skin everywhere.

Before you try that, consider a few of these basic magic tricks. Here's some things I can suggest that worked wonders for me:

lowering my sugar intake to an insanely low amount has done wonders
collagen supplements with my protein shakes
the right facial cleanser for my skin (I use Cetaphil for oily skin; they also have one for gentle skin)
many people recommend moisturizers, but personally I never use them. if your skin tends to dry out, it might be of help.
never touch your face, and if you need to scratch, just do it with your forearm or something other than your hands (your hands are amazing king but they're usually dirty as fuck)
for pimples, dry em out w/a dab of tea tree oil on a Q-tip 2-3 times a day, wait it out a few days and you should have no scarring since it will come off smoothly. Great test of patience and resilience btw to walk around w a huge fucking blob on your face

Also air dry your face after you wash it, the bacteria from towels can rub off on your face and cause lots of acne. That step and drinking more water helped more than anything. Oh and wear sunscreen so the acne scars don’t cause discoloration

Get your diet on point first. Drop IGF-1 foods, then get on accutane if that doesn't work.

Definitly worked for me and i would recommend if you live in europe. Heard that in the US and in other places they give extremely high dosages. Thats where you ussualy get horror stories from people with bad side effects

I had severe acne just 2.5 years ago, and Accutane killed it, however, it messed with my brain and my lips were bloody almost all the time.

Go to a dermatologist and get a professional opinion. My dermatologist put me on it for 3 months and it was the best. I just had very dry lips and needed some high grade chap stick. They also had to monitor my body and do blood work. If you do acutane, do it under the supervision of a doctor.

I do hope you have tried alternative treatments beforehand. Epiduo (not sure what else it is marketed as) cleared my acne up greatly and is just a cream you apply thinly nightly.

Of course if you want to jump straight to accutane which I've seen nuke my brother's acne. Then do go for it.

It depends how bad it is and im assuming if youve been perscribed acutane it must be quite bad. I personally woulnt go on it, I would try everything else you can first and you need to be disciplined. I recently found out that what I had was actually fungal acne hence why none of these other products or regimens were working for me. I have tried a lot of acne drugs over the years and all of them have just been a temporary fix and its always come back once ive finished the course of drugs. Its a long road but you might need to find the exact trigger for yourself.

What has worked for me is avoiding sunflower oil (its in nearly everything as its a cheap oil), cutting out dairy (im lactose intolerant so its easily done) taking desicated liver tablets (a good easily absorbed source of vitamin A is great for skin), I swapped a lot of my face washes to be products which are friendly to fungal acne (even the most gentle and popular stuff on the market has triggers for fungal acne) and I went caffiene free.

I read a book called clear skin forever a few years ago (I dont think the guy was an actual food scientist or dermatologist so take a lot of it with a grain of salt) but it had a lot of foods and additives listed in the book and how they impact acne. I think a good place to start is with diet and getting diciplined and consistent.

I am 33 and still need to keep on top of this stuff as I still get breakouts like a teenager if I am not careful and go out on a binge. Anyone that tells you it just goes away with time or just wash your face havent had bad acne in my opinon.

It's a miracle drug, just do it at a low dose (20mg every other day), I'm taking it at 20y/o and it's cleared me up very well, the only side effects I have are dry lips and nose which are easily fixed with Vaseline. Also I'm taking it by myself without a prescription because the corrupt bluepilled doctors here just want to sell you products that they have deals with and never prescribe the stuff that really works.

Do it. I didn't have severe acne, but I had moderate acne that didn't respond to any other treatments. So eventually I said yes to Accutane at age 18 or 19. I ended up having to do three separate 6 month cycles over 3 years because mine returned, but I'm glad I did it. I had the common side effects: dry skin, sunburn, dry lips and nosebleeds, but that's it. Got annoying at times but very manageable. No serious side effects at all. I'm glad I did it.

The serious side effects are very very rare. I was scared about them first too but they are overblown. You will have your blood tested and if something is off you can stop taking it. Isotretinoin is just a vitamin A derivative which is made naturally by the body. It's just pumping a ton into your system to attack the acne vulgaris.

Had acne but not terrible I just have cruddy skin. When I stopped shaving with a razor, it really improved. No more ingrown hairs. I don’t even have a thick beard or anything. I just use a beard trimmer. I would go to a dermatologist if possible and see what they think.

I was given retinol as a kid, but that was years ago. It worked, but dried my skin a lot. My acne wasn’t really bad, but noticeable.

Try alternatives without insane side effects first.

Retinol 2%

Vitamin C serum

Washing face with soap in morning and before bed.

Eat less sugar and oily food.

Eat ALOT more veggies.

Drink 1 gallon+ of water a day (this one is the most important)

You should only turn to medicine with SHITTY AS FUCK side effects if you have no other options.

Don’t trust your doctors so easily, they’re human too.

Solve a problem with a solution.

Not with another problem.

Probably, but accutane can also cause depression symptoms.

After a while your acne might got better and you’ll have to battle with, “my skin is so clear but I don’t feel any better.” Or “my skin is so clear but I’m still not confident”

Those thoughts might be worse because of accutane’s effect on your mood, but it’s also still true.

If you handed clear skin on a golden platter you still would need to work on your confidence.

The whole thing will be a journey. But it’s probably worth it.

good luck brudda; dont mess with the pharmaceuticals before fixing your diet/lifestyle, they just wanna take yo $ and provide a temporary fix (on average, not well informed with accutane)

Accutane is def the last resort you want to take in my opinion. If you don’t have a skin care routine already, try that first to see if that improves your skin or not. As others mentioned, check out the skincareaddiction subreddit.

The general outline for a routine is cleanser, moisturizer, and sunscreen (AM only). As you do more research, you can add more serums and look into exfoliators that’ll help your skin out further.

Just as a precaution. Accutane has potential horrible side effects, please do your research and only resort to accutane if your acne is severe/horrible cystic acne or you've exhausted all other avenues. If not start with a course of antibiotics, your derm can help you.
