Avoiding a fight on the street is a win, theres too much that can go wrong, even if you’re a great fighter. Most people on the street that talk shit don’t actually know how to fight, but it’s always a possibility. I’d recommend taking up jiu jitsu, or boxing/kickboxing/muay thai if it’s in your area. After at least a few months to a year or more of training, you won’t be amazing but you’ll be better off than the majority of people if a fight were to actually happen. It’ll also give you the confidence in that scenario because you won’t have anything to prove. Doesn’t sound like you did anything wrong though. It’s not worth it in the street unless it comes down to self defense. Besides, those are the type of black dudes that wanna make everything about race.

Pro MMA fighter I train with. Monster. Went out with other pro MMA fighters, they got into a brawl and got hurt badly by a group of guys. One hospitalized. I was shocked, these guys fuck everybody up in the gym.
Argument over a girl escalated, my friend got stabbed and barely lived.
Friend punched a guy outside a bar because the guy shoved him. The punch knocked him down and he slammed his head on the curb. My friend spent ~50k on legal fees, got convicted of assault, barely escaped jail time.
Guy tried to fight me at a bar, I "bitched out" in front of a group of girls I was with. Was slightly embarrassed. Guy got in a fight with another dude a half hour later, both got arrested. That would've been me.

I started training MMA to learn to fight. Now I'm pretty confident in my abilities to fuck an untrained person up in the gym, on the street I'm still terrified of violence. Not trying to sound like a bad ass, I've been training for 12 years now. I know how to fight, and I will let my ego take a hit all day every day if it means avoiding street fights.

Fuck pride, don't do it. It's not about toughness/skill, it's about risk tolerance.

I was walking with two girls out of a club once and this black guy tried to pry a girl away from me. I shoved him off and his 3 black friends jumped out the of car and confronted me. Luckily since the club was in a shit part of sf and was 18+ and not selective had a smarts to have squad cars roll up I motioned over a cop and the bouncer (who was like 6’10) and told him what happened. The cops and the bouncer went over and had them all handcuffed.

Point of the story I was lucky I had people there. Since then I always conceal carry or carry extreme strong pepper spray in my pocket at night.

Vast majority of the people who are aggressive on the streets don’t know how to fight. You’re better off turning a cheek. Fighting (especially when your outnumbered) is never worth the trouble trust me

what I'm about to say is not because they're black. it's because they said this:

I don't want to become friends with people who view the world through such a lens and try to start shit using the false accusation of racism with strangers (ie: we know 100% that no store gives out free ice to people of one race but not another, in the U.S.; but in tribal areas in other countries, you'd be surprised how the treatment is different if you're from another bloodline...)
I'm under no obligation to try and reduce (their manufactured) situational tension. the "i make a joke so its not so quiet" problem of weak minded men. So: simply ignore them and go on with your day. Their mindset is their problem, not you being there. Control how you react to other people to master your day.

So, you did an A&A - with your use of "hey i'm white and i get free ice b/c i'm white" , so A+ on agreeing (with their logic) and amplifying (you actually getting the ice) but an D- in your choice of when to use A&A.

Generally, you should keep your mouth shut in public because you never know who you are dealing with. With thAt said, you defused the situation and handled it correctly. Thankfully, these guys were able to let it go, but I'd seriously reconsider talking shit in public, especially around uneducated people
