How did you learn to reflexively answer questions with funny remarks, opposed to actually answering?

I am bad about this too. I picked some mildly bitchy, attractive women I know who I won't sleep with (don't shit where you eat). When I talk to them I know they are going to throw shit at me so I am waiting for it and try and see how I do. It's helped me a bit.

I started wearing a new piece of clothing I don't usually wear and I knew one woman in particular would give me shit about it if I wore it in front of her. So I did so on purpose and basically thanked her for her sarcastic compliment. After that I knew no one else's shit would matter and so far it hasn't. I love this piece of clothing now.

tldr: pick a hot girl who you won't sleep with and have her shit test you a lot. The only way to improve is to train.

Ironically enough the key to quick wit is taking your time. Most people want to immidately fill the silence, because they're insecure and get overexcited when someone shows interest in them out of the blue.

Don't be like that. Don't rush the answer, let the cogs in your brain turn for a moment. What seems like a long time in your head is usually unnoticeable to the other person.

Of course, there's limit to everything - don't spend two minutes trying to come up with a clever response - you'll just end up psyching yourself out - but give your brain a second or two and soon you'll be surprised how it starts to automatically deliver witty (or in general more intelligent) responses.

It's because your brain tries to predict what you want and hand it to you on a silver platter. All you have to do is to let it do its work.

I didn’t realize how naturally I pick it up it becomes child’s play and second nature after a while. All I did was read shit test posts A LOT such as posts, forums, shit text encyclopedia, etc.

HERE IS HOW TO DO IT. After a conversation, guy or girl, replay the conversation in your head and point out scenarios where it was a shit test. Then come up with something witty you could have said. Write it down if you need to. Eventually when you come across a shit test you’ll pick it up right away and since you’ve been practicing your lines you’ll be able to come up with new ones.

I have a "notebook" app on my phone where if I hear something funny, come up with something clever or funny, quotes that resonate with me either books, interviews, podcasts I write them down and categorize them. Not everything you are going to use/come up with is gonna be original but if you are exposed to those kind of responses eventually you are going to come-up with a witty remark automatically.

Besides there are gonna be times when you just won't have a clever response so you can roll your eyes and smirk, tap her head, just use your non-verbal communication to tease her.

When in doubt answer the question with another question. Usually peple ask probing questions like that because they want to talk themselves.

In your example you could have responded with something like "Why do you ask?", then she'll go on a long spiel about whatever vacuous nonsense she was on about and you curry favour.

For me wit and humor from hanging out with other people who were witty . First semester at university , my roommate was one of the quickest witted people I have ever met . He was constantly teasing everybody in the house and soon we developed the “verbal wit reflexes “ to respond to his teasing . It was all light-hearted and in good nature .

Later on , me and a freind would basically “play/act” different scenarios and practice thinking of witty remarks .

Fun people , guys and girls alike tease and “shit test” each other for fun . Hell, we did this in elementary school.

Some people recommend watching comedy shows and movies , etc , but the best and real way to learn wit , humor , game , charisma and social skills in general is to hang out with people who have these traits.

I think the best thing to do, if you want to look more charismatic and laid back is not to answer the question right away, but to delay the answer a little bit, build antecipation and from that, tell something cool, something interesting.

For example, if someone ask where you are from, you won't answer right away that you are from X, Y or Z, most people don't really care about it. They want to learn something about you, so if you give a straight cold answer like "I am from X" you are not giving something to like about you, but instead you Should answer something like " The place i was born was a vey laid quiet place that had some really weird events, you know, Brazilian Country side can be a very crazy place sometimes..." and from it, you can start a conversation and make you funny jokes and puns from it.

I generally don't take stuff people say too serious since I was 14 maybe. That's when it started. And in the decades after that, I found out I it was the right decision.

That has been my greatest influence on that topic. Just make sure you read people correct. There are times when you're better off taking something serious and some people just cannot understand a sarcasm or fun in general.

In the end, nothings right or wrong by default. It's always about what you want to from them.

Basically it just comes down to holding onto or bringing up that playful attitude whenever you're talking to a woman socially. Remember how that mood felt and make it a habit to mentally call it up any time she says anything.
