Work on your posture...head up, back straight, chest out.....practice eye contact on random people I.e the girl cashier at the grocery store, the secretary at the doctor’s office etc. Another good trick is to look at people’s eyebrows, during conversation, if you are too afraid of direct eye contact. They will never be able to tell, and it will give you the illusion of eye contact. Practice and have confidence.

Sounds like a multi-tasking problem. I've found intranasal oxytocin helps me with eye contact, as well as alcohol(which releases oxytocin). I am autistic FYI.

I’ve instinctively just always stared at the lips. Ever since I was a kid. Felt like I could read lips better than eyes. I’m a little hard of hearing too I guess.

But no one has ever noticed. In fact, now when I do try to look in the eyes just to try it, people ask me why I’m staring at their hair. Guess they so used to me watching the mouth it looks off when I actually do make eye contact.

As a crutch you can look at the bridge of their nose instead until you’re more confident. Easier for you but same result for them.

When i talk i can't really focus on my thoughts when i want to keep eye contact, my mind just stops working completely. I can only keep good eye contact while I'm drunk.Tnx

Ok.

Firstly you don't feel worthy/confident with other people. You value their opinion or care what they think for some reason. Conflict avoidance, low self worth, etc.

You have two main fixes:

Practice. Stare people down. Do it behind glass at first if it's easier (eg they are on a bus). Then with strangers. Then in conversation.
Lift heavier things, do harder things, build your self worth and self confidence.

you need to figure out why your cortisol/adrenaline is spiking, what is making you tense, what is signaling to that primal brain that there is danger in eye contact?

do you feel less than the person you are talking to?

this is the key IMO, it's all about being completely relaxed in a zen state, then you can look at someone directly in the eye for however long, like it's not a chore or a test to see how long you can hold frame. its just being relaxed and comfortable. figure out what's making you uncomfortable instead of just trying to think of the downstream solution of how to maintain eye contact longer.

This used to happen to me because every time I talked with women I was thinking about the red pill. I started realizing that you really have to be in that present moment listening and showing who you are. Get comfortable with showing who you are and your character. Just try and think of it this way.... I know a guy who comes up to me to talk but will never look me in the eyes.... Whenever he does this I feel like he doesn't actually give a fuck about what I'm saying, and guess what.. Most of the time when I say something I know he isn't really listing. People will not like you less if you just look them in the eyes... I promise you they will like you more. It's honestly just rude and weird when you dont.

Remember that next time you talk to someone. If you dont look them in the eyes you are being rude, selfish and weird..

Just look at people's mouths. Idk why but I used to have the same problem and that fixed it for me. People can't tell the difference unless you're standing really close to them. I don't ever think about it anymore.

Sit down and relax while staring in the mirror. It gets kind if trippy and dissociating to where you feel almost like you're in the space between you and the mirror or moving back and forth between the two. After you get good at that you can almost carry over the technique.
