I study engineering and when I interact with girls, very often when they ask me what do I do and I answer them, i get responses like "I would have said that" or "you look like one" .

It annoys me a bit, because rather than a compliment, I perceive she's covertly pulling the "loser" engineer stereotype, of which I don't think I am: I take care of my looks, lift, always push to improve my confidence.

So I always play it cool, mainly laughing and disagreeing : "yeah, but I don't play world of warcraft" or "why are you so racist towards engineers?"

How do interpret these responses?
