No. They do not like you. Just like cam girls and strippers they flirt with you to increase how much you tip them. Nothing more to it then that.

Sure, but keep a few things in mind.

They have to be nice to you, it's their job. If getting tips is part of their job, they will when flirt at times. Basically it's to their direct professions all benefit to make simps of all the patrons. With that in mind, don't assume she likes you because she's being nice or playful.
Go for being friendly and social. Basically treat it as a long slow seduction. They get hit on and asked out a dozen times a day, you are just another number on that list. Building a friendly relationship over time however makes you stand out. This is something you'll have to play by ear of course.
Be chill about asking for it/offering yours. Also remember some places have a policy that can result in termination of employment if they do give their number out (usually to give them a safe fall back reason to decline giving out their information). If you offer to give them yours and they decline (or accept and never make contact) don't make an issue of it. Just accept what I said about 1. Stay friendly and don't bring it up unless they do first. They will respect you a lot more for it.

Source: I work in retail and have heard MANY horror stories from my female coworkers who are just trying to do their job and provide basic good customer service and have discussed this basic subject at length as a result.

It’s really not cool to corner people at their place of work. People who work in public relations/service jobs are required to be polite they aren’t hitting on you. Leave them alone.

It's as uncomfortable as you make it.

Try this: "would it be against company policy if I asked for your number?"

Beyond the script: you're not only asking for her phone number, but you're giving her an out and generally indicating that you can take no for an answer.

Being approached, in and of itself, doesn't make people feel cornered and uncomfortable. The cornered and uncomfortable part comes from the fact that a lot of people can't handle rejection and there's a good chance the reaction is gonna be one kind of ugly or another. The key to approaching in a more delicate situation is showing (not telling) her that if she says no then that'll be the last she has to hear of it.

Oh, and for those in the back, MAKE SURE IT'S ACTUALLY THE LAST SHE HEARS OF IT!

You shouldn’t think they like you even if they act like it, it’s literally their job. Also, don’t give out your number to a girl, you’re putting the pressure on her and it’s almost never worth it for her to bother. Now that doesn’t mean you shouldn’t talk a girl YOU LIKE just cuz she’s working.

Respect the protocol, ask her for her number, if she agrees great, if she rejects you, never show your face at that establishment again. If for whatever reason you want to keep going to that place again, then don’t bother asking an employee out. It also doesn’t hurt to build rapport and try to chat her up whenever you go, if you don’t mind waiting a little.

I have dated several people I met while they were working… I also have had two housemates and a band mate that I met the same way.

Generally I approach staff with a “can I be the best part of their day” or at least be a highlight - cuz being a waiter or cashier is stressful yet a lot of people who work these roles are fairly social.

When I have gotten numbers of waitresses it has been OBVIOUS they were interested. It was never the first time I met them either. When I have been having a positive interaction where I questioned the interest, it has never panned out into anything and would have been better not to ask.

My advice: be really fucking cool and make sure they dig you first.

The only way I would suggest doing this is leaving a note on the tip receipt with your phone number. If she's interested she will contact you, otherwise it gives her an out.

You just have to be very tactical and respectful. Invite her to an event you're hosting with friends or talk about a local restaurant with amazing food and say "if you're ever down to try it we should go sometime." Gage her interest. If she says no or doesn't seem enthusiastic you can leave it there without it being weird.

If you fucked it up and you happen to go to the same place and she's there, imagine the embarrassment you would feel. Just don't get the numbers of these people you don't wanna be that awkward or creepy customer, unless you know what you're doing.
