Use this trick when you do go out with your buds. If a friend 25 bucks, for each set you get into, he has to give you back $5. That way you have a big incentive to sarge.

You accidentally.
[–][deleted] -1 points0 points1 point 15 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link
I don't think the incentive to sarge could really get any bigger dude.
[–][deleted] -3 points-2 points-1 points 15 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link
i guess this could work for people who are still anxious about opening. only talking to 5 sets in a night is a pretty poor showing in my opinion...

I usually prefer going out with 1 friend only, you know, the wingman. When going to clubs/bars/lounges, 3 guys or more can become an instant game-kill.

There seems to be a delicate balance...I've found a group of three (one male, one female) is the perfect group size and composition for me. I've had my best nights ever with a group like that. But, it depends on the people in your group. If they aren't being social, being friendly, being fun, they'll bring you down rather than helping you stay up. But, I've done OK solo, too. It's not a big detriment to go out alone, by any means.
In short, no friends is better than shitty friends that drag you down to their level. So, good on you for recognizing the situation and being proactive about it. One of these days, you'll probably meet some people who aren't shitty to hang out with.

HELL YES. I've been screaming this advice from mountaintops and to my friends for years. Sometimes it's hard for them to understand, probably because they have the confidence of an earthworm. It speaks volumes to people when you show up alone, have a smile on your face, make eye contact with everyone in the room (not in a creepy way) and roll through a crowd like ambulance drivers. (Thanks, Beck!) I can't count how many lovely ladies I've met by starting my night this way.
Now, after a while friends usually find me out and we'll work a room together, but alone (hard to explain). It usually works with your best mate/wingman. Try it out! That way, if you're in a dead room you always have someone to anchor you.
Just remember: People respond to confidence, so if you don't have it...fake it till you make it.
Go with god. Come back a man.

I want to find someone to work a room with. It gets boring sometimes. There are a ton of guys that well... are shy as fuck. At least 90 percent of the bar. The guys that end up with girls did it on accident from what I have found.
[–]EVIL5 1 point2 points3 points 15 years ago (3 children) | Copy Link
Too true. It's hard, but you can certainly find them. Start by making friends outside of your circle (work, high school buddies, roommates, college friends, etc) and make new friends who have common goals and interests. Also, I try to find cool guy friends almost as much as girls.
No homo. Building a good social network is key.
[–]side22 points 15 years ago [recovered] (2 children) | Copy Link
Agreed. I always feel like they think I'm a homo when I try chatting up the guys as much as girls. I want a good friendship base of both. I dig chicks not the guys for those that don't have good reading comprehension.

My question is how the hell did he get friends if he thinks your gay. People are wierd. I can't wait to understand how this shit works.

and roll through a crowd like ambulance drivers What?
[–]EVIL5 0 points1 point2 points 15 years ago (1 child) | Copy Link
"move through the crowd like ambulance drivers" is a Beck lyric. It's a metaphor for skillfully and confidently moving through a crowd, holding your own, doing your thing; "workin' it" in general. Get it?

Yes. Thanks.

You're experiencing herd mentality. When you go out with a bunch of beta AFC's it rubs off on them and you tend to adopt their ways. When you're out by yourself, you don't have that handicap, but you also have the additional incentive that there's no one else to talk to if you don't meet a bunch of new people.
Good for you.
even people in line This should be your warm-up routine anyway.
Edited for typos.

most of my friends are just wall flowers that stare
Yep, looks like I found yer problem right here..... I can see why you would prefer to go out alone if your friends are useless. I go out alone quite frequently as well.
However, the true value of a wing isn't to help you open. It's to help you close to get you the same night lay.
Keep looking for a good wing while you're out. You'll eventually see a guy who knows what he's doing in a club or bar, chat with him, that's how I met my best wing ever. Too bad his long distance girlfriend just moved here.
[–]LeSpatula 2 points3 points4 points 15 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link
I do. Since few years I go out alone every weekend, occasionally with a friend. First it was strange and I felt like everybody was looking at me. But people don't care nor notice if you're alone. I really like it now. I can do whatever I want and don't have to make compromises.
[–]VoodooD2 2 points3 points4 points 15 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link
Way better. I can barely meet people when I go out with friends. A few weeks ago I went into a bar by myself and talked to 4-5 different groups of people alone which is something I've never done with a wingman and this was all within a little over an hour.
[–]executex 1 point2 points3 points 15 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link
Well if you don't have a wingman, someone who is dedicated to go out sarging specifically. Then it won't work.
You should go alone if you have to. It gives you complete control and ability to leave at any moment.

I do best when out with 1 or 2 people. I don't like going out solo because I don't go out just to meet women, I go out to have a good time with my friends. Luckily I have a great group of friends who are really social and like meeting people even if they're not PUA's per se.
[–]sockthepuppetry 1 point2 points3 points 15 years ago (1 child) | Copy Link
The only problem is you have to invent an imaginary place you stashed your friends in.
[–]kjaernet 1 point2 points3 points 15 years ago (2 children) | Copy Link
Yes, I find that more adventurous and easier to meet new people. But I admit to having a few problems smiling and feeling at ease without a couple of drinks first - anybody have any tips to do this wihout drinkies?
Go for massive failures just to get it out of the way. Honestly it is hard to fail when you try to.

Some questions:
[–]acllee 4 points5 points6 points 15 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link
If you think about the stereotypical creepy bar types, its usually the lone male sitting in the corner staring at people that comes to mind. If you want to avoid coming off as a creep I'd recommend that you try to talk to everyone in the bar including big groups (can be tough if you have social anxiety) and don't just talk to women because this can be pretty transparent (they're much more perceptive that you think). If you have trouble talking to large groups all at once, maybe try talking to one person on the edge of the group or who looks a little left out. The best way to start is "Hi how are you"
[–]side23 points 15 years ago [recovered] | Copy Link
Talk to everyone. Everyone is your friend. I got asked what girl was mine. I said they are all potentially mine. Same with the question of where my friends are. I'm friends with a lot of people here. Nobody specific.
[–]acllee 1 point2 points3 points 15 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link
I enjoy it because your friends can end up being a crutch when you need to be social. Its really easy to just fall in with them and not talk to others. I've come to enjoy going solo because venue changes are up to me and also it makes me meet not only women who are out but I also try to talk with other guys my age and I end up meeting some fun people.
[–]side22 points 15 years ago [recovered] | Copy Link
Yes. It only helps you when the people you go out with are into meeting new people as well. Otherwise you are generally inclined to stay with the pack. It gets really boring really fast. Then again I just said fuck it and let my friends wall flower if they want. If they want the help I will but I am tired of people holding me back. It's difficult to find any guys that want to wingman around here. Not fun when everyone is either with someone or too damn shy to even try to talk to women. I guess that's how women feel about being approached by awesome guys. Oh well.
I would really enjoy a wingman though just to have conversations with in between surges of sarging. I gots to take breaks once in a while.
