ToddV did a video on that. Basically, focus on the parents, and get them on your side. Sort of like friends, but much more important to impress.
I gotta say, I've never tried it. I've seen some cute girls shopping with clearly their moms, but I haven't been ballsy enough for that yet. I'm barely confident enough to do groups of girls with their friends. (Also, Covid country, so...yeah. Worst time to start approaches)

You aren't on his level of game then. It sounds like OP approached with a lot of tact and respect. He engaged the parents in a friendly manner, he was respectful and came off as a mature guy who has his shit together and willing to take risks to get what he wants.
The subconscious message that was being conveyed was that this guy will do what needs to be done and is willing to be authentic and put himself out there. In other words, Dad probably has massive respect for the guy (especially considering he is a guy and knows how much balls it takes to approach a girl, ESPECIALLY with her father present), he had nothing to hide and wasn't trying to be sneaky.
The girl probably thought this guy is the biggest stud because he showed no fear, could converse with her father on a man to man level and clearly expressed that he wants to get to know her.
