My hunch is that even though people's preferences vary from each other's, there is significant agreement amongst people on who is beautiful and who isn't.

What I mean is that positive judgements of attractiveness aren't uniformly and evenly distributed amongst people. Like, it is not the case that every person out there has an equal number of people who would find them attractive. Some people are found attractive by a great deal of people. Some people are found attractive by very few or even no people. So, there is a bit of a consensus on who is attractive and who isn't.

I find that people often paint it as a false dichotomy without nuance: either every last rater is unanimous in their judgements about who is hot and who is not, or there are no inequalities at all and every person gets the same average score for hotness. And the question also gets conflated with whether attractiveness is "objective" or "subjective," without a clarification of what those words are supposed to mean in this context.

That's just my two cents before this post is probably taken down for not really being on-topic.

I personally will give most people a chance even if I'm not super attracted to them. Being in love with someone always makes them hotter, so as long as there's some underlying hotness, I'm good.

But also, there's a lot more to dating someone than looks. I'd rather date a 7 with a great personality then a 9 with a horrible one.

I voted but the title of the pictures do not completely sum up my preferences. For example, in the case of the "black woman in business attire", I might not find this particular woman attractive but that doesn't mean I wouldn't find any black woman in business attire attractive. The same is true for all the cases there.

I hope more of these get released for both sexes and we can see a good sample - the results were pretty cool and for the most part besides a couple of obvious choices on either end, a lot of the choices had even averages!

People aren’t monoliths. Standard of beauty is something that changes from time to time. And even within what a certain culture deems “beautiful”, there will be outliers who find others aspects beautiful.

Elongated necks in African tribes, foot binding in China are extreme examples, but corsets, high heels, spray tan and tanning beds, tattoos, piercings, and other body modifications are done in the name of beauty.

Men/women want X. I don’t have X. Therefore I can’t find a partner is a stupid take.
