I don't know if this is a particularly profound realization but I had it yesterday.

There's this hot af girl I was flirting with and she called me "annoying". I've heard this before from other girls but this time I asked why she thought I was annoying. She said because I do this thing where I give a compliment but then change the subject or take it back / diminish it in some way.

Btw she said this with a completely straight face, she wasn't laughing and saying I'm annoying, she seemed actually annoyed.

I don't do this on purpose, it's mostly because I feel weird giving girls compliments. But it seems like it helps build attraction, because after that when I gave her any real compliments they seemed to have more value and she came home with me.
