So my mate said he was 'chatting up' this girl. I thought 'good for him'...and then I saw a conversation on his fb wall.....oh dear. I will give you some examples of the kind of things he said, and why they are wrong. (Im new to this, im no expert, but I know enough to know where hes going wrong)

  • Him - You have a nice weekend?
  • Her - yes i had a lovely weekend thank you, was great fun.
  • Him - aww as long as your weekend went well, thats good to hear

Ok so not much wrong so far, but he does come across as a little bit too caring in that last sentence. Like "I dont care about myself, as long as you are ok, thats all that matters" kinda thing.

  • Her - if you have a weekend free come and visit
  • Him - Thats really kind of you, thank you. Your far too nice to me. I dont deserve it.

He's basically saying that she is too good for him. I dont deserve it = I dont deserve you.

  • Her - Thats what friends are for :) Come to visit, make sure you get a break.
  • Him - Aww what a great friend you are too

So now they are both referring to each other as friends, even though he has different intentions.

  • Him - youre lovely and dont let anyone say any different
  • Her - No response

Wrong sort of compliment he should be giving her.

Basically, the whole conversation was way too friendly, and he seemed to be sucking up to her too much. It was like she was having a conversation with her Gran. He seems to be falling into the trap of trying to befriend the girl first, then making a move after. That's just going to confuse the girl, as she is receiving mixed signals.
