You could have just said yes and avoided all of that. The charming man line is almost definitely going to come off as try hard and cringe. You don't tell a girl you're a charming man, you just are.

just treat it as a tease, although in person it would depend how she said it (I guess this is text?). in person, the key I think would be to smile. something like "ok, a mildly charming man" <smile>. or "oof, ok, well a man anyway" <smile>. I guess you could use smiley faces instead of smiling but I'm not sure that would work as well since the emotions are not as connected.

Your mistake here is instead of saying "I heard it is better to share this with a charming man (making yourself the focus)", you should've said to share it with a insert something specific about the girl.

Can be a compliment or if you are feeling ballsy, you give a shit test back to her. "...to share with someone who looks like a fun girl but is a troublemaker"

This frame you are using is just losing 90% of the time. You just digged your own hole unless you already have a creative answer to what's charming about yourself. (Which clearly in this case of you asking the question, you are not quite there yet)
