If someone replied to me telling them how bad the weather was with "In this dimension,yes" i'd think they were on LSD.

Id just respond with a "mhm go on..."

I was expecting this to be an idiotic Tedx video, but it's actually a pretty okay article. Simple, to the point, and with a lot of examples.

However, the advice doesn't do what it says it's supposed to do. This won't turn your small talk into a conversation. What it will do is give you better ice breakers and make your small talk more interesting. That's not useless advice, it's just not what the title is claiming.

The first half was good- ask specific questions over general, overused questions. But my god the second half was terrible IMO. Basically just be a sarcastic fuck? idk seems like it is really hit or miss

Open-ended questions shouldn't really be brought out of nowhere. You can try pressing about someone's job, for instance, in an attempt to make interesting conversation, but the person might not have anything worthwhile to say or even feel like talking about it.

The best example in here was "what did you do today?" It will give you information about what that person does day to day, and you can inquire further. They'll probably give you something personal that you can latch onto. If something particularly bothered them, or they really liked something, they'll probably tell you and you can expand on that.

It doesn't go into as much detail as it could, but it's got some nice ideas. Once you throw out one of these unorthodox answers, I think the other person will feel much more comfortable about breaking the norm as well and will probably make them feel like they can be a little goofy too.
