THIS! So many people I read on here, be it in posts or comments, are just trying way too hard. A lot of you dudes just need to mellow out and remember that what you're talking to is another human being, not a machine with a code to be cracked.

It sounds like you're making progress..... :) I'd recommend a few things.

Continue to enjoy the process that you're going through right now..... that enjoyment helps.

Reject any attempts to push expectations on you about what your outcomes should be at this point or how fast you should be reaching them. Just move along steadily at your own pace.

I mention this because some people think that a guy is not accomplishing anything unless he is aggressively going for number closes or angling to take people home, from the time he first starts off. But making steady progress (even if it's slow progress), the way you're doing, usually leads to a guy building himself up to a point that his social success is far more sustainable in the long run.

Lastly, don't neglect yourself as you move forward. Making progress for pick-up feels good, but make sure that you're doing things to enrich and improve your life that have NOTHING to do with women. Because if your self-worth is too strongly tied up in women, you're attaching it to something that will naturally ebb and flow. Attaching it to yourself and the things you have accomplished and continue to accomplish in other areas of life, is far more solid.

I hate pickup lines to. I like to be as real and authentic as possible. It seems like your new friend is nice. You should ask her to coffee or somewhere. Give a specific place and time. Like "I'm going to be at xyz Wednesday after work. You should join me." And if she says yes, get her number. The reason you give a specific time and place is so that she can politely decline if he isn't interested.

Remember, seeing her on a regular basis means you can take things slow.

It's nice that you keep working on yourself. So please don't get me wrong, but I really want to say some things here. You are new to the field or at least not very advanced, which is no bad thing at all, but a post that get's upvoted to the top should have some deeper insight and feedback helps us grow. So here it goes (chronologically through your post): * I don't know how large your city/campus is, but normally you will never get a second chance to approach a girl. Remeber, it was luck that you saw her again, use your good experience of the second encounter to approach girls the first (and often only) time you will see them!

Try to go into sets of 2 or more people with ease as well. Yes this is hard, but if you remember your first sets with girls (like this one) there went nothing wrong, it was actually quite fun. Same goes for 2-sets and you will learn, that they aren't harder.
Do not wait for eye-contact. Why? If you develop the habit of doing so, you will excuse a lot of sets, because EC is rare. You have to learn to cold-approach.
You turned in an interview style when talking to her. Try to make assumptions like 'you probably study here, too' That actually makes a lot of difference. You can even guess her field of study and have her guess yours. Makes the conversation a lot more playful and different/interesting.
Ask her for the number! Ask every girl for her number! There is no reason, not to. If your game sucked (you often feel it went worse than it acually was) you will know, if she refuses. But not-asking is plain wrong. It's the next step after opening. If you don't open, you fail, if you don't try to close, you fail as well. Just do it.
The problem with cheesy opening lines like 'I lost my number...' is the delevery. People who use those lines expect those lines to do magic. Words mean nothing, however. So, if you rely on words but put no vibe behind yourself, there will nothing be delivered. You can open with everything (that's why Hi is a perfect opener), what matters is the way you behave, say the things you say and the aura you emit.

Keep on with the good work! If you have some nice girls on your campus use every Saturday to make approaches! Try to develop a natural habit of speaking to people (and foremost attractive girls) and no opener will ever come bad, because you will perceive a natural vibe. Hope that helps ;)

One thing though. There is no need to hate on another mans strategy or approach. I don't know the case you are talking about with the guys line, but that paragraph itself is out of it. I'm not sure how long you lurked here, but if you seem to think that pick up lines are encouraged, then you probably lurked for a whole 10 seconds.

That being said, I personally love fun lines. I'm not sure if that guy actually got the number but that's pretty funny. I'm sure at a bar if I said that to a girl I was having fun with that she would laugh and give me her number.

No thread here that has any worth would ever claim or behave as if women are not people. But using techniques and strategies to help guys interact and talk to women successfully also doesn't mean that women are not people
