What type of nod is acceptable to girls? I do the up nod and down nod for two different reasons subconsciously. The up nod is a more respectful acknowledgment of the person, whereas the down nod is a more friendlier acknowledgment like "hey".

Sounds like progress. Sadly, being bold in this manner can sometimes label you a creep, but as long as you have a friendly gaze, you should be okay. If there was no mask, I would say that giving her a smile as you pass would be better than a nod. However, I can say from experience that giving a smile/nod will almost never cause a woman to stop and speak to you in public, unless you are stopped at a crosswalk or bus stop. You are eventually going to have to muster up words to say to her. You are still on the right path towards building that confidence

I don't remotely understand how about 20 comments in this thread are all saying "this is creepy" and one guy claims he got in trouble, for making a little eye contact and nodding?
Back when I was out and about more this same thing would happen all the time, very often it was the girl who would nod at me first, then I would return the nod. I personally think it's more friendly than an indicator of interest, but who knows?
Not once have I been perceived in some "bad way" for a little eye contact and a nod, that I could tell.
In what way would this be "the wrong thing to do"? What's next, in a sense?
