The only reason you care about age gaps is because of what other people may think. If you don’t give a fuck about other people, then you date whoever you want. You need to get rid of this absurd need of trying to fit in with people who don’t give a fuck about you.

In elementary school and high school, it is normal to try to fit in by being someone you are not because you are forced to live with the same people for years. You don’t want to be alone, even if that means having fake friendships.

But once you get out of high school, especially when you are almost 30, you need to start being your own person who follows his own rules, and what is authentic to him.

Instead of trying to appeal to people who, at the end of the day, don’t like who you really are, they only like what they want you to be—even if you hate yourself for it.

The problem is not that others may shame you, the problem is that you care about what others do. That just shows you lack character, personality, and the strength to be yourself.

And when you base your behavior around what other people dictate, you are gonna end up just as miserable as they are because people who are happy with their lives don’t have the need or the will to judge others for what they do with theirs.

For sex? Personally, as long as they're out of high school, then it's fine with me. Basically that means 19+ (I'm currently 31 for reference, but regardless, the average age of the girls I've slept with this year is 29.6 with a spread of 21/40).

For a relationship? Probably no more than 5 years younger or older than me. I find women much younger or older are just not very compatible for something serious since we are in totally different stages of our lives and won't be able to relate on many things.

As long as both parties are legal it is ok for me. Being able to get someone younger or not is another question of course. It also question of your own age: mostly young folks and gals are on a moral trip. The older you get the less important that way of thinking becomes. When your age increases, the number of potential singles in your age group decreases exponentially. Without considering young people the chances of stay single are high.

Morals are a changing target anyway. Only a few decades ago it was normal for girls to get married at 18 with dudes that are often older. It was morally accepted.

I am not saying that was the right thing to do. I want to point out that these kinds of "morals" are not definite.

Go for whatever you and your potential partner are comfortable with as long as both they and you are 18 or over.

Will you get judged in some social circles for being gapped if the gap distance is large? Sure, but when it comes down to it, how you vibe and connect with the other person is what truly matters here.

And they are selecting themselves to be with you or around you. I have dated with gaps of them being 8-12 years younger in the past.

The man should be older as women mature much faster than men... for a woman to date a man of the same number of years doesn't make any sense , a general rule would say that she is significantly more mature than he is and rarely will those work... excluding the high school sweethearts bc they will tend to last more often than their same-age non-hs sweethearts do. id say 10 years or more Is probably right (onces woman gets into her 20's) A25 year old woman and 35-40 man seems about right, and as both get older the gap could be wider. Depends on when the man quit being a child..

idk why I'm recommended this sub but the math is (age/2)+7, round up if below 18 for obvious reasons, and round down if 18 and above. Legally, idgaf as long as both sides are consenting adults

I wouldn’t let my 18 year old date you. Nine years might be fine if you’re both in your 30s or 40s. But that large an age gap with 18-year-olds is mostly seen as creepy men looking to groom an impressionable young woman. Your post makes you sound like a potential groomer.

I think if you are 27 it’s fine to date 18 year olds. If it’s the most emotional healthy thing to do is a different discussion. There are plenty of 30-40 year olds trying to date 18 year olds and you are nowhere in that ballpark, so don’t worry.

It’s not about what’s ethical, it’s about where there’s a falloff in compatibility.

I’m experiencing the same thing (28m). I find my sweet spot to be 22-25 rn. Any younger and it’s like they’re speaking a foreign language. Slept with a 21 year old a few months ago and while she was highly intelligent and super attractive, there was just some clear disconnect between us that made me not want to see her again. Anecdotal, but I think it was the age thing.

I imagine that the age gap doesn’t feel as acute once women hit like 25. That is - a 40 year old dating a 25 year old probably isn’t as “disconnected” as us dating 20 year olds. So much growth happens from 20-25.
