After reading a post about the "ABC's of Attraction Bootcamp" I decided to put this together to help anyone interested understand the basics of attraction. Feel free to add anything you think I missed or omitted. We are a community after all.

(NOTE: This is not so much about how to get the girl as it is about how to effectively market yourself to increase you chances.)

Rules of Attraction: The Basics

Rule 1: The Senses:

  • Sight: This is typically the first thing someone notices about you: How you look. So, it stands to reason the first thing you should consider is your appearance. Pick a style that works for you; whether is urban chic, vintage, hipster, hiphop, country, or fanboy; pick your style and make it work for you. But follow the rules of style: Always appear clean, neat, and put together! You should never be out there dirty, dingy, torn, tattered, scuffed, or otherwise disheveled. Invest in your wardrobe. The sad truth is: CLOTHES DO MAKE THE MAN, and while we are on the subject, shoes speak volumes about you. I don't care what your style is, just make sure it's the image you want to show the world. There's a reason we wear shirt and ties to job interviews. And when it comes to jewelry and accessories, always remember: less is more.

(A quick note about Hygiene: bathing is not OPTIONAL! It should be done DAILY. Wash. Rinse. REPEAT! You may think you're clean, but trust me when I tell you you missed a spot! Also, deodorant is your friend! Things like Axe Body spray is not a replacement for it. Funk and musty aromas outlasts any cologne and bodysprays on the market)

Which brings us to

  • Scent: Science has proven smell is the sense most tied to attraction and memory. You want to smell good as often as possible. Whether it's simply smelling fresh and clean, or the light hint of a high dollar cologne, women LOVE a man that makes her nose happy. I've had women do 180's and spark conversations about my cologne, and even ask for a t-shirt sprayed with it to wear when I was away. Invest in three distinct scents (one for everyday wear, one for special occasions, and one for romance/sexy times). Your body wash should be your daily scent, you should have something light and citrisy for daytime, sunny outings, and something heavy for romantic outings and getting close. Also, regarding body wash, have a non-scented one on hand so the scents don't clash. Same goes for deodorant. When searching for a scent; take your time and find one that works for you. Just because it smells good on that piece of paper doesn't mean it's going to smell good on you. Pick two you like and spray some on each wrist and take a walk around the store. Ask some random ladies to give you their opinions (makes a great conversation starter). Rinse, repeat. Do this until you narrow it down. When it comes to application: One spray directly on your chest, one spray directly on the back of your neck. That's it! Spray the skin, not the clothes.

  • Sounds: Now, I'm not going to tell you to talk like Berry White, but bass is a plus, and women love a smooth voice. What's a smooth voice? It's being able to verbally express what you think or feel with confidence and conviction and the least amount of inflection necessary. Speak clearly and confidently. ALWAYS! Even when you drop your voice during sexytimes and intimate whispers; you should never need to repeat yourself because she couldn't understand the mumbling coming out your mouth. Remove "um" from your vocabulary! Make eye contact when you speak. This staples people into the conversation. If you're looking around while you speak, one of two things are happening: either they are going to start wondering what you're hiding, or they are going to start looking around to try to figure out what you're looking at. When it comes to conversations themselves, always remember the golden rule: the person asking the questions controls the conversation.

Furthermore, learn to tell an engaging story and hold someones attention. Learn to both use and read body language. Get in front of a mirror and practice. Practice what you want to say/ask before you dial a number. Learn to express yourself clearly, in both verbal and non-verbal communication.

  • Touch: Your body and clothing should be a tactile playground. From hard muscles, to soft smooth skin, to silk shirts and ties, to cotton boxers. Where ever a women's hands may find you, she should like what she feels. Whether its running her hands through your soft hair or over your smooth bald scalp, or sliding her fingers over the shoulders of your suede jacket, she should enjoy touching you and being touched by you. Understand that finger tips sometime feel better than whole hands. Light brushes sometimes feel better than firm presses, and soft and gentle have as much as a place as rough and hard.

  • Taste: If there's a chance she's going to put it in her mouth, make sure it's clean and smells fresh. PERIOD! When it comes to kissing, invest in gum, mouthwash, and mints. This should go without saying but, much like bathing, brushing your teeth is not optional. Brush daily at the least, twice a day preferably. Floss. Try to use mouthwash before the morning kiss or before sexy times ensue. You may not be able to smell your breath, but I promise she can. And what she can smell, she can taste. Act accordingly.

That's it for now. If there's any interest, I'd be more than happy to go into the other Rules of Attraction: including dating, communication, sex, and the key factors of relationships, but I don't want to spend time typing up a handbook if no one is going to read it.

Best of luck, Seddit.

EDIT: Okay, I've been at work all day and this is the first opportunity to I've had to respond to some of the questions, discussions, and criticism: First and foremost, if I was building a complete handbook or workup, this would be Rule 1 of about 25. There are many aspects of attraction, some subtle, some overt, and this is just the first step and the very basic. Many think I'm focusing on how looks because I think looks matter to women. Well, to that I say... THEY DO! Do we all need to be underwear models or voted "Sexiest Man of the Year"? Absolutely not, but to say a women will be attracted to you based on how YOU think you look is ridiculous. Anyone who wants to tell themselves they can look like shit, and smell just as bad, and still pull a woman, is seriously overestimating his abilities. Can you attract a woman when you are not at your best? Yes. But if that image of "not my best" is maintained for any period of time, the attraction will fade. Simple as that. Anyone who doesn't believe that women appreciates a clean, fresh, well dressed man is a fool.

The second part of this first rule is the simple fact that when you look good, you feel good. You carry yourself differently. You walk with you back a little straighter, with you chest out a little further, with an air of confidence that you don't have when covered in filth and grime, wearing clothes that haven't seen the inside of a washer in nearly a month. And guess what, when you feel better about your looks, when you feel better about yourself, it's easier to express that ease and confidence when interacting with women. Honestly, if you had to choose between approaching the girl of your dreams in a tailored suit, or approaching her in shit splattered overalls; which would you choose?

Finally, as I said this is the first of some very basic rules; and can essentially be summed up in on statement: "How can you expect anyone else to like the way you look, if YOU don't like the way you look?" Attracting a woman is about properly marketing yourself. Its about grabbing her attention and giving her more reasons why she should give you a shot than reasons why she shouldn't. "I look good", "I smell nice", and "I'm clean" are by far the easiest to express, and they ones that are the most readily at your disposal. Why not exploit them to the fullest. No woman wants to shake hands with a man that smells. No woman wants to get close to a man that's filthy. No woman wants to snuggle with a man wearing enough cologne to sterilize a surgery room. The goal is to lure her in, not force her away.

Take it for what its worth.
