I'd love to see some more normal vocabulary being used in general. Things like "kino" and "#close" could be happily swapped for "physical contact"/"touching" and "got her number". Don't get me started on "sarging". Christ.

Eh, I don't mind the terminology.
If a bunch of world of warcraft nerds are on a WoW forum discussing "griefing," "grinding," and "raiding," would I give them shit for not explaining every time what it means? It saves valuable keystrokes and only takes a couple days to learn what the terms mean. Who cares if the lay person has no clue what they're talking about.
And it has the added benefit of keeping people out who aren't dedicated enough to learn the terminology. Which is a very good thing. We need MORE hardcore people on seddit, not less!
Don't get upset by words. If it means the same thing, what difference does it make.
Besides, we keep a glossary linked in the sidebar at all times.

Sometimes I just wish the glossary was on the sidebar like it is in r/AskSeddit because. There are a lot of links over there, though, so I understand why it's not. I usually just open r/AskSeddit in another tab if I need to refresh my memory on one of the terms.

I'm glad you brought up the Warcraft example, because this sums up how a lot of people see girls, dating and relationships. I think the terminology serves to reinforce the impression that the things you do as a normal person, and things you do when you're trying to attract women exist in completely separate worlds, when the advice is often quite the opposite. However I take your point about brevity.

For the sake of science I will agree with you...but only partly. When we're here, discussing game, you're right. As much as economy (valuable keystrokes, extensive concepts caught in 3 letters...) is important and valuable. This, however, only counts for our interactions here within seddit.
It boils down to an inner game thing:
I think that language (in a wider sense) is the only way we have to impose our reality. Now you can function very well in a subculture by adopting its ways, its terminology and all but that makes you an apprentice (in our case mostly of mystery who invented many of the terms). You will always be beta if you don't find your voice. Whatever you look at, don't ask: what do you call that?...Name it:

I don't think our words define who we are as we long as understand why we choose the words we use. I do agree with you in one aspect, though... If you're just mimicking someone you look up to blindly, that's a problem.

Agreed. This is tiresome to no end. PUA vocabulary reduces the specificity and accuracy of language available to be used. I think the average field report, for example, would be vastly improved with a little less "kinoing everywhere" and a little more function directed language like "using reassuring and progressively more intimate touches on the arms," or "using friendly and expoloratory sweeps of the nose across the forehead". I mean, the difference is vast here, and clearly, one of these will get you friend-zoned post-haste.
On the other hand, I have been told I grade my students' organic lab reports too harshly. Beginners in any field rely on vocabulary to direct their thought, rather than using vocabulary to describe their intention. I prefer that my students bother to go through the extra processing step, 'cause I think it builds skill.
But seriously, "sarging" has really got to go.

Some valid reasons there, I think. Maybe noobs focus too much on the vocabulary and less on the content.
I'm curious what your problem with "sarging" is, though.
The only somewhat valid argument against it that I've heard is that it was created by Ross Jeffries whom a lot of people want to disassociate with.
It's easier than typing "going out looking for girls" so IMO I don't see the harm in using it.

The word sarge is reminiscent of the word sargeant. By shortening a military term and using that as the term to describe going out and looking for girls, the activity is framed in the terms of warfare. And, my own bias enters here: putting this stuff into the metaphor of military operations makes me hear the words around "sarging" in a more "rape and pillage"-y tenor than, say, any other more lighthearted frame. the ancient Greeks may have known their way around a woman, but I can't stand by their practice of sacking cities and having their way with the inhabitants thereof.
So whether or not you hear the same things I do when you read the word "sarge", it will still be the first part of a military officer's title, and it is my opinion that this frames PUA as an adversarial activity. In other words, it reinforces the predatory aspects of PUA without acknowledging a context for these tactics. This is not a thing that I can condone in good conscience.

I'm just reading the post above re: terms and inner game. This seems to cover pretty much everything we're both saying, eh? These words provide economical ways to express complex thoughts, and are best used in a community of experts whose experience with these terms is larger than first impressions. The important thing is the meaning.

Actually, the term (supposedly) comes from Ross Jeffries cat back when he was first creating/doing PUA. Something to do with "hey wanna come see my cat?" to get a woman into his apartment.

That being said, I think all the happy cigarettes in this thread (and the world) need to stop being offended by words, especially when the words aren't directly derogatory.
